Some people refer to Atlanta as the Heart of the South. That might just be true. One thing is certain, if you want to really experience the South, then Atlanta is the place for you. 

This beautiful city offers everything from the thrill rides of Six Flags Over Georgia to the unique shops and street entertainment of Underground Atlanta.  

Atlanta offers so many exciting and interesting activities and sights that the only problem couples will have is deciding what they want to do first. After you have settled into one of the many area hotels, it will be time to plan your day. 

Six Flags isn¡¯t the only area park. You can visit the panda at Zoo Atlanta, and the Georgia Aquarium is scheduled to open soon. Stone Mountain is considered Georgia¡¯s number one attraction and is home to the world¡¯s largest exposed granite carving. Stone Mountain also offers visitors a look at a replica of an 1800s village including real crafters at work. Experience all of Stone Mountain by taking a ride on the Scenic Railroad or Sky Lift. While you are there, make sure you stay for the incredible laser lights show. 

A great place to stroll hand in hand with your sweetie is Callaway Gardens. It is well known for its 14,000 acres of beautiful gardens and resort. Callaway is famous for its magnificent azaleas, but you¡¯ll see plenty of other gorgeous flowers and plants along its many walkways and bike paths. Be sure and visit the breathtaking butterfly center before you leave. 

The Atlanta Botanical Garden Center boasts some of the world¡¯s most beautiful orchids, and it houses the Fuqua Conservatory. The Conservatory features many rare tropical and desert plants. 

While you are downtown, check out Centennial Olympic Park, the home of the 1996 Olympics. Even if you don¡¯t watch a Braves game, you can always take a Turner Field tour and visit the Braves Museum and Hall of Fame. CNN has its global headquarters in Atlanta, and you can take a tour for a behind the scenes look.

Get in on the action of Atlanta¡¯s own NBA team, the Atlanta Hawks. You can also enjoy the thrill of Atlanta¡¯s NHL team, the Atlanta Thrashers. Both teams¡¯ home games are played in the modern Phillips Arena. 

Fernbank Science Center has one of the largest planetariums in the country, and Fernbank Museum of Natural History has exhibits of huge dinosaurs. You can sit and rest while enjoying the museum¡¯s IMAX theater. 

Shopping in Atlanta is a must, even if it is just window shopping, and one of the best places to go is Underground Atlanta. Underground covers twelve blocks right in the middle of Atlanta and offers more than 100 stores. There are great restaurants in Underground Atlanta, also. While you are shopping, stop and listen to the many street entertainers scattered throughout the Underground district. 

Right next to Underground Atlanta is the World of Coca-Cola. Make sure and take the tour to experience its many interesting exhibits. Follow the tale of Coca-Cola back through history. Don¡¯t forget to get a sample of Coke while you are there. 

Of course, Underground Atlanta isn¡¯t the only shopping area. There are many malls and shopping centers surrounding the city, but one of Atlanta¡¯s most famous shopping districts is Buckhead, known as the Beverly Hills of the East. Here you shop for fine clothing, jewelry, art, and other gifts. 

Be sure and top off your day at one of the many fine restaurants, cafes, or pubs in the city. If you want entertainment along with your dinner, Atlanta has live music in many area restaurants, or you can make reservations at one of the city¡¯s dinner theaters. Atlanta¡¯s southern hospitality never stops, so plan a wonderful getaway for you and that special someone today!
