If your idea of romance involves spending time together outdoors or cuddling indoors with a great view outside your window, Wyoming is the place for you.  Wyoming has many natural attractions and beautiful scenery, and there are great places to stay for a weekend or longer.  There are activities available for both summer and winter stays, and the romance of the Old West will make you want to return soon to Wyoming.  Here are some things for couples to do in the state.

Everyone knows about Yellowstone National Park, and large crowds visit in the summer.  Try Yellowstone in the winter for a new experience; the snow makes everything seem very different, and it¡¯s much less crowded.  You can stay at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and pursue activities such as cross-country skiing, snowcoach tours, and snowshoeing, and the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel also has winter lodging in the park.  Snowmobiling is fun, and the steam from the geysers makes pretty photos against the snowy background.  There are ¡°fire and ice¡± packages available at Yellowstone in winter; you¡¯ll be able to go out on a snowcoach to photograph frozen waterfalls, wildlife such as bison, elk, and eagles, and the amazing hot springs and geysers.  Special dinners are offered at Christmas and New Year¡¯s, and chocolate buffets, wine tastings, and other events are also held during the winter months.  Experiencing Yellowstone in the winter can be a very romantic adventure.

If you like to visit movie sites and are a fan of the movie ¡°Close Encounters of the Third Kind,¡± a trip to Devils Tower National Monument would be interesting.  The 1280¡¯ oddly-shaped rock rises up out of the valley and is visible for a long distance.  The tower was a spiritual site for the Native Americans, and President Theodore Roosevelt made it a national monument in 1906.  Hiking and picnicking are popular activities at the park, and there¡¯s a visitor center at the entrance to the park that will give you information about the history of the tower.  If you¡¯re experienced in rock climbing, you can scale the tower, and it¡¯s interesting to watch others climbing it if you don¡¯t want to participate.  There¡¯s a climbing kiosk in the visitor center parking lot that presents climbing demonstrations, and guided walks around the tower are given, starting at the visitor center.  The Devils Tower can be quite romantic as you get closer to nature with your partner; the Devils Tower Lodge north of the park is a bed-and-breakfast inn that has amazing views of the tower and is a good place to stay if you visit the monument.

Wyoming is known for its ranches, and guest ranches offer many different activities for you to get a taste of life in the Old West.  Most of the ranches offer cozy accommodations, spectacular meals cooked out in the open, horseback rides out on the range, and fishing in the creeks in their packages.  You can spend a nice week together in a beautiful scenic area if you take a trip to a guest ranch in Wyoming. 

Wyoming is an ideal state for adventure travel, and you can share thrills together as you engage in white-water rafting, kayaking, snowboarding, skiing, jet skiing, exploring caves, or other sports.  Hiking, fly fishing, biking, and horseback riding are milder sports, but can be just as fun for couples to pursue.  The area around Jackson Hole provides opportunities to engage in many outdoor adventures, and there are many different kinds of accommodations available there; bed-and-breakfasts, boutique hotels, resort lodges, condos, and rentals offer romantic getaways with fireplaces, hot tubs, and incredible views, and if you want an inexpensive alternative, several campgrounds are available in the area.  If you go downtown to the Square or to Teton Village, you can do some serious shopping, and there are many excellent restaurants in Jackson.  One even offers a sleigh ride to a cabin where you can have a romantic meal.  Whether you go in winter or summer, Jackson Hole is a very romantic destination.

Cheyenne, located in the southeastern corner of Wyoming, is the capital of the state and has many attractions.  During the summer, the city holds Cheyenne Frontier Days, a ten-day festival that includes a large rodeo, midway rides, a free pancake breakfast, an art show, air show, musical performances, and parades.  The Cheyenne Little Theater puts on ¡°old-fashioned melodramas¡± during the summer, and there are gunfight reenactments in downtown in Old Town Square.  The restored Cheyenne Depot includes a restaurant and museum, and there are history, cowgirl, arts and crafts, and western museums too.   Romantic horse-drawn carriages will take you on a historic tour of the downtown area, and there are several hotels in Cheyenne that offer sensual packages that can include massages, sumptuous brunches, whirlpool baths, facials, aroma therapy, champagne and flowers, private decks, fireplaces, and more. 

Wyoming has breathtaking scenery, adventure activities, and cozy lodges where you can curl up and watch the snow fall outside.  You can spend a relaxing time in front of the fireplace, or go outdoors and engage in exciting activities.  Wyoming is a perfect place to get in touch with America¡¯s Old West history and find your inner cowboy/cowgirl together.  There are many opportunities for romantic adventures in Wyoming.
