Whether you live in Ohio or are just planning a vacation to the Buckeye State, you¡¯ll find that it has a little bit of everything for the romantic at heart. From the water activities of its lakes and rivers, to the rolling hills and farmland, Ohio is a state that deserves a closer look when planning your trip for two. For a romantic vacation to Ohio, there are a number of locations to consider.
In southeastern Ohio, Burr Oak Reservoir State Park will give you a view of the lake from every room. The property sits in the lovely hills of southern Ohio. Accommodations are at the Lakehouse, which has a fireplace in each room. The spacious rooms have large windows for excellent views of the scenery. The space is completely furnished with lodge-style decorations and a dining room table with candles. Cuddle in the hammock or on the couch. You¡¯ll have a full kitchen with appliances and cookware. Close to the Lakehouse is a marina where you can rent a boat for a romantic day on the water. Or, take in a round of golf and then set out on the hiking trails for some exercise and views of nature.
Also in the southeast of Ohio, the Hocking Hills State Park has thousands of acres of hills and forests for the two of you to explore together. There are caves, waterfalls and rivers. Visitors here can go hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and boating. Or, just relax and enjoy the nature and wildlife. For lodging, there are various chalets, inns, and resorts where you can relax, dine, and enjoy the views. About 30 minutes away from the Hocking Hills State Park is the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. The historic locomotive rides are taken on the weekends through Wayne National Forest, with rides from 12 to 25 miles long.
Ohio is also the home of the world¡¯s largest Amish population. The Mennonite and Amish people live a simple way of life. Ohio¡¯s Amish Country, in Holmes and Wayne Counties, is northeast of Columbus, Ohio. Stay in a bed-and-breakfast, Swiss chalet, or cabin. Watch the Mennonite and Amish make their homemade delights, such as candy, cheese, bread, pies, and other mouthwatering treats. Go horseback riding through the forest or fishing, hiking, swimming, or picnicking. You can even be a passenger on an Amish buggy ride. Later, browse in the country stores, and enjoy a home-cooked meal made by the Amish.
Kelly¡¯s Island is four miles north of the mainland, in the beautiful expanse of Lake Erie. Take a ferry boat from Marblehead to Kelly¡¯s Island, or fly to the island on a charter plane. For more fun on the water, you can take a ride on a sailboat, or take lessons to learn how to navigate the boat together. There¡¯s also camping, fishing, and swimming at Kelly¡¯s Island State Park. The Butterfly Trail will thrill you with the many species of butterflies and dragonflies flitting about the foliage. For a taste of the native grapes, slip into Kelly¡¯s Island Wine Company to do some sipping of its fabulous wines. If you come in the winter, try your hand at ice-fishing.
Ohio is a beautiful, historical state where you can spend a lot of time discovering quaint little towns or sprawling forests and hills. Ohio is a truly the place to make romantic memories for a lifetime. |
