Savannah, Georgia is a well-preserved southern city.  The heart of the city consists of four large public squares, and the streets are lined with hardwood trees filled with drooping Spanish moss.  The squares serve as city parks, and have extravagant statutes and fountains as centerpieces.  The clean and vintage natural setting of the city makes a simple stroll through town very romantic.  

Savannah was built on the bluff overlooking the Savannah River.  Several shops and restaurants are built into the bluff, and the street to access these tourist destinations is properly named River Street.  River Street is the center of tourism in Savannah.  Most of the buildings were built in the 1800¡¯s and much of the main road, and many of the access streets, is cobblestone.  River Street is home to the Sea Cabins.  Sea Cabins is a company that provides five star hotel suite accommodations atop the bluff above River Street.  The suites feature Jacuzzis in the bathrooms, and balconies that overlook the water.  The suites also features full kitchens and stocked refrigerators.  The cost of renting a Sea Cabin is about $175 per night.  The Sea Cabins are extremely limited in availability because there are fewer than 10 rooms available.  

Should the Sea Cabins be unavailable, the couple seeking romantic accommodations may choose from any number of bed and breakfast homes overlooking the squares and parks in Savannah.  One such bed and breakfast is the Forsyth Park Inn.  The Victorian style home features 11 bedrooms and a cottage.  The bedrooms are furnished with Victorian furniture and amenities.  The rooms all features different accommodations and price varies depending on the specific room chosen.  The inn offers gourmet breakfast, wine in the evening, and dessert before bed.  All of the rooms and common areas in the inn provide a view of Forsyth Park.  

If you are looking for a beachfront room, travel a short distance from Savannah to Tybee Island, and visit the Hunter House.  The house was built as a family beach house in 1910, and was recently renovated.  The Hunter House features four suites, for a price of about $125 per night.  The ambience is not as nostalgic as many of the inns in downtown Savannah, but the house is on Tybee Island.  The Hunter House also features a gourmet restaurant and a full bar.  

Savannah offers numerous choices for romantic dining.  River Street features The Shrimp Factory, one of the most famous restaurants in Savannah. The building, which was built in the 1800¡¯s, was originally used to store cotton.  The restaurant maintains the original brickwork and rafters. The Shrimp Factory creates a quiet and romantic atmosphere with candlelight and open windows overlooking the Savannah River.  The menu offers a large selection of entrees and appetizers, as well as a full wine list.  Expect to pay $25 to $50 per person for dinner.  

Another popular romantic restaurant is Casbah.  The Moroccan style restaurant offers the atmosphere of a distant marketplace, combined with freshly grilled kabobs, a shopping bazaar, and belly dancers for entertainment.  The Casbah proclaims to be one of the most romantic restaurants in Savannah.  The cost is slightly less than The Shrimp Factory, and dinner for two should be between $40 and $70.  

Belford¡¯s Savannah is a unique restaurant that overlooks the City Market in Savannah.  The restaurant has been featured in several magazines, and offers a wide variety of steaks and seafood.  Belford¡¯s claims to change the menu seasonally to ensure the freshest meals are served.  The restaurant is set in a building built in 1902, which originally served as a Hebrew church, and overlooks the City Market, which is filled with specialty shops, restaurants, and bars.  

Savannah presents the opportunity for several numerous tours.  The city is home to many cemeteries, and the many of the residents believe their city to be the most haunted city in the United States.  There are several ghost walks available that typically meet in one of the squares around dusk and are led by local historians who relay the ghost stories of the city and sometimes offer evidence of their truth.  You may prefer to tour the city in a horse drawn carriage.  The Plantation Carriage Company offers tours of Savannah each day and evening.  

During the summer months, the Riverstreet Riverboat Company offers tours on 19th century replica paddleboats.  The tours vary in price depending upon the tour chosen.  Some of the more romantic tours might include the ¡°Murder Mystery Cruise,¡± and the ¡°Midnight Dance¡± cruise.  The company typically operates from March until October, and dinner is often available as part of the cruise.  

Visitors may also be interested in finding many of the locations discussed in the novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  The people of the town of Savannah have embraced this biographical novel, and there are many available tours of the homes, restaurants, parks, and other landmarks discussed in the book.  There are also ¡°book maps¡± (as Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is referred to in Savannah simply as ¡°the book¡±) available so that you can discover the sights for yourself.  

Bonaventure Cemetery is located on the outskirts of town, and offers a quiet and peaceful view of the history of Savannah.  The cemetery is shadowed by the large hardwood trees, which are filled with Spanish moss.  The monuments and grave markers are frequently large, extravagant, and beautiful.   

Savannah is a city filled with romance.  The well-kept town squares, restored Victorian homes and buildings, and quiet and dimly lit restaurants are simple yet inadequate illustrations of the ability of the city to captivate the heart.
