North Carolina is a state that has something for everyone.  In the world of tourist attractions, North Carolina remains a modestly outstanding place of beauty, history, and modern luxury.  Here in the middle of the East Coast, the traveling couple will find mountains, beaches, flatlands, and major urban areas, all filled with romantic things to do.

If the beach is your thing, Carolina Beach is a "secret" destination on the East Coast.  Carolina Beach is a relatively small town with a laid back feel.  While tourism is up in the summers, it is still unlike the wild "Spring Break" beach towns filled with noise and drunken revelry.  The main drag, known simply as the "Boardwalk", is full of shopping, novelty attractions like haunted train rides and pirate's lounges, and some of the world's best seafood in quaint, unpretentious restaurants.  Here you can take in a delicious seafood meal, stay in an affordable ocean front hotel, and enjoy the cool night air on white sand snuggling with your love.

The Outer Banks is close by.  Even more secluded than Carolina Beach, it is known for its incredible history since long before the arrival of Europeans.  The Outer Banks will take your breath away with its scenic beauty and amazing historical sites.  Experience the romance of touring the site of the famous Lost Colony, and be sure to visit the State Aquarium to view remarkable creatures of the sea.

If you prefer the untouched, natural beauty of the mountains, be sure to head towards Asheville to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The nearly 500 mile stretch is lined with scenic overlooks that will amaze you en route to the U.N. recognized international bio-zone, the Great Smokey Mountains.  Grandfather Mountain, in particular, is home of the Mile High Swinging Bridge which is a thrill for all who cross.  Hold your love tight as the bridge swings and you view the mile of open air below.  

During the fall, the foliage becomes a picturesque blend of oranges and reds mixed with the constant greenery of the evergreens.  As you make your journey through the Parkway, the sky seems as close as your fingertips and the endless view of lush vegetation, wildlife, numerous roadside crafts and attractions are sure to inspire romance in your adventure.

Along your way through the Parkway, visit Cherokee, home of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  The Cherokee people will welcome you to their reservation and happily enjoy your exploration of their history and traditions.  Take a ride up the mountains in the Cherokee Chairlift, visit the Cherokee Trading Post, and, in October, visit the Cherokee Indian Fair.  From June through August, do not miss the outdoor play "Unto These Hills", which tells the story of the Cherokee from the time of European arrival through the time of their forced departure. On a dark and breezy summer night, the drama will provide a romantic conclusion to a day of sightseeing.

In Blowing Rock, you¡¯ll find the famous Tweetsie Railroad, a recreation of the Old West. Catch reenactments of shoot-outs and live musical performances. Ride the rides until you are tired, and then take the chairlift to the goldmine for a romantic picnic in the park.

In the Piedmont area of the state, be sure to dine at the world famous barbeque restaurants of Lexington.  Visit historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem for strolls along cobblestone walkways and involvement in a town that functions completely as it would have hundreds of years ago.

The Asheboro Zoo is an old stand by for animal gawking and a leisurely time with your loved one.  Not too far away, Charlotte is the home of Carowinds, North Carolina¡¯s flagship theme park.  After a day of screaming on roller coasters and winning those teddy bears for your partner, you are likely to have the romantic feelings in high gear for a dinner at any of Charlotte's amazing fine-dining establishments.
