Surfers will often be found where the Atlantic breakers reach an accessible shore in the Caribbean. A few of the best islands for surfing in the Caribbean are Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia and St. Martin.

Anguilla, a beautiful but quiet coral island located in the Caribbean Sea, has 33 powdery white sand beaches along with the finest restaurants, excellent snorkeling, and shipwrecks waiting for scuba diving exploration as well as exciting surfing, sailing and water skiing. 

Aruba, a desert island, located 15 miles off the Venezuelan coast, has a dry sunny climate and one popular beach that offer Caribbean surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. The conditions found here such as a constant 15-knot trade wind and challenging wave conditions are all combined to make Aruba a popular spot for surfers regardless of their level of expertise in the sport. Aruba is also known as a cruise ship destination and is very popular with honeymooners.

Barbados, a coral island with a coral reef that stretches all around its coastline is often thought of as the perfect surfing vacation spot. With unlimited surfing conditions found all over the island, no matter if it is a swell approaching from the northerly or westerly direction or whether it is a swell moving from the East or South, this island can guarantee the surfer a place to surf somewhere along the shore at any given day of the year. Barbados has gently rolling hills, coasts that vary from rugged rock to gently sandy beaches, has many fine hotels and restaurants, an excellent climate and is the most visited of all the Caribbean islands.

Guadaloupe, consists of two different islands connected by a bridge. These two islands are known as Basse-Terre and Grand-Terre. Basse-Terre is volcanic and rocky as well as lush, complete with rain forests and black beaches. Grand-Terre, while flat, contains limestone with plains, rolling hills, some cliffs and mangroves along with white beaches. Some beaches are clothing optional. Guadeloupe offers several excellent surf locations where surfers can practice year round. With a surf season lasting from October to May as well as the other months offering ideal conditions and waves breaking on coral, lava or rock reefs, the surfer has many opportunities to perfect his sport on this island. 

St. Lucia, a beautiful, lush island, has many private coves as well as white and black beaches, crystal-clear warm water and a coastline of rain-forested mountains that attract many surfers to the waves and beaches found here.

St. Martin, with its offering of many different activities such as horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing, jet skiing and more, offers excellent Caribbean surfing on the waves located off the shores of this Caribbean island.

Surfers looking for the perfect wave have plenty of opportunity on any of these Caribbean islands or on one of the many others not listed here. No matter which island is chosen, from sunrise to sunset, surfers patiently wait the break and the Caribbean is only to happy to oblige them with plenty of waves to try their expertise on.
