If heights are not your thing there are plenty of other activities to engage in. For the sports fan you may choose to visit any one of the numerous golf courses that fill the city. Tennis is a popular sport as well. Most resorts offer one, if not both of these activities. IF you are more into lounging around you will still love Palm Springs because it is the hotbed for spas and health centers. If you are looking for something more low-key do not worry, there are plenty of pools to lounge around.
After a day of golf, tennis, or poolside slumber you may find yourself in the mood to shop. Shopping is available all week, but every Thursday night Canyon Drive opens up for an open-air market with street vendors, shows, and plenty of shopping.
After you shop you will have a bevy of restaurants to choose from to replenish your carbohydrates. The proximity of Palm Springs to the Mexican border results in culinary delight. Downtown Palm Springs offers a blend of excellent Spanish-Mediterranean food. Tapas bars mingled with burrito shacks and upscale Mexican dining establishments ensure a variety of culinary experiences.
If you visit Palm Springs you should take time to explore the mountains that surround it in some capacity. Horseback riding is a pastime in the Indian Canyons, which is home to the world¡¯s largest natural palm oasis. Also popular are the Eco Jeep Tours what show tourists the flora and fauna of the mountains and hills surrounding Palm Springs.
Even if you do not wish to get down and dirty in the mountains you should take a drive along them. One of the most interesting aspects of the Palm Springs scenery is the windmill farms found all along the periphery of the city. Driving to and from Palm Springs you will be amazed at the sheer number and size of these impressive structures that litter the landscape.
Palm Springs is a good destination not only for what the city itself offers, but also because of its proximity to other popular destinations. The Joshua Tree National Park is only forty-five minutes away by car. Date Palms, a region producing generous crops of tasty dates is just miles from downtown Palm Spring as well. Cities such as San Diego, Los Angles, and the Anaheim, site of Disneyland, are less than three hours away, and of course there is Las Vegas¡ªjust a short plane ride from Palm Springs Airport. With all the attractions in the city and nearby, Palm Springs in an excellent spot to take a vacation. |
