There are obviously many different ways to pack for road trips depending on the situation at hand. For instance, families traveling with children should consider packing a different supply of things compared to families who don¡¯t have children. The following should be a list that one might consider when getting prepared for road trips that involve children. 

1. Pack items that contain extracurricular activities for them to do. Keeping young ones busy during road trips is essential mainly because they take so long and children are prone to getting bored quicker. It has become more common nowadays for consumers to purchase many items to keep children occupied during trips. Some suggestions would include pocketsize Gameboys, portable games, such as Connect Four, Checkers, Battleship, Candyland, portable CD players and if the budget allows, rent or purchase a traveling van with the television and DVD player already installed in the backseat. 

2. Bring plenty of snacks. It¡¯s recommended to bring some light snacks because it could get costly and inconvenient to stop at many different stores, every time the little ones want to eat. 

Now that the children should be set for the trip, travelers should always pack special items just in case an unexpected emergency happens. The following should be included:

1. Be sure to have plenty of drinking water. It is no surprise that our bodies require water to keep hydrated and is mandatory to survive. Therefore, water should always be readily available. In addition, it¡¯s helpful to have some extra water in case the car starts to overheat. 

2. Bring flashlights due to the fact that they are helpful if an urgent matter should occur at night. 

3. Make sure to have a map or atlas. Knowing exactly where you are is necessary in case of an emergency since cell phones may not be easily traceable and proper authorities could have a difficult time finding your location. 

4. Check the weather and the road conditions for the day of travel. Being prepared will help any trip along smoothly. If there are reported road or weather conditions, knowing them in advance, will speed things along because there may be detours or alternative routes. Also, when weather conditions are bad, it¡¯s not recommended for anyone to chance it, so plan the trip on another day. 

5. Be sure to bring plenty of clothing. Just in case the trip runs longer than planned, it¡¯s always nice to have everything needed without extra purchases. 

6. Get a radar detector if cruise control is not an option. Even though it is always wise to drive the speed limit, realistically, it doesn¡¯t always happen so having a radar detector can be helpful in cases where there are friendly cops monitoring the highways.

7. Also check the condition of the vehicle before leaving for the trip. Make sure all fluids are topped off, the oil is changed and full, tires are in good condition, all belts are in good shape etc. This is important as vehicle breakdowns are never any fun. 

 The final recommendation is to pack road trips at least one day in advance. Following this tip, will prevent rushing and ultimately leaving much needed items behind.
