Ontario can offer a wealth of activities for a good price with the favorable exchange rate.

If traveling to the Toronto area, you can spend your days exploring the diverse neighborhoods of the city. Besides shopping and a vast array of restaurants, there are some wonderful museums such as the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the York Museum.

You can catch a show at either the 5,800 seat Air Canada Centre , the CanStage theatre company or the Toronto Theatre Alliance.

A family fun spot is Ontario Place in Toronto where kids (and adults) can enjoy a variety of rides and attractions, play video games, rent a pedal boat or play a leisurely game of miniature golf. Visiting on a hot summer day? Visitors can enjoy soak city at Ontario Place where you will fin a variety of wet rides for the whole family to enjoy in Toronto¡¯s only downtown water park.

Also worth a visit (great for inclement days) is the Ontario Science Centre where you can experience 800 hands on exhibits and demonstrations. You can take in a movie at Ontario¡¯s only IMAX dome or take in a show at the mini planetarium, explore a limestone cave or take a ride in a bobsled simulator. 

Kids may enjoy a trip to the CN Tower which is the world¡¯s largest tower. Here you can enjoy spectacular views, enjoy motion simulated rides, an interactive arcade, shopping and dining.

If you make your way down to the waterfront, stop by Harbourfront Centre where you can enjoy a variety of outdoor entertainment year round for people of all ages. You can choose from a variety of restaurants for either a quick snack or meal or stop by in the evening for drinks and entertainment.

Sports fans may enjoy a trip to a Toronto Blue Jays game. Place your bets at Woodbine or Mohawk racetracks where you can catch thoroughbred racing action or spend a leisurely day golfing at Lionhead Golf and Country Club. Looking for a little more excitement? Take a sail on an authentic schooner where you can enjoy drinks from the licensed bar.

If you enjoy nature and history, take a trip to southwestern Ontario where you can follow the Black Heritage Trail, which is the secret route of the underground railroad used to carry slaves to their freedom in Canada.

The Bruce peninsula is also found here which offers scuba divers the opportunity to explore sunken ships and a vast array of underwater caves. Landlubbers will enjoy the majestic limestone cliffs and rock formations along with many area lighthouses.

The area also includes Grand River Country where you can enjoy views of rolling countryside, farmland, and gorges.  You can raft or boat down the Grand River and visit Ontario¡¯s only remaining covered bridge, ¡°The Kissing Bridge¡±. While in the area, a shopping trip to St. Jacob¡¯s Farmers Market is a must. You can purchase fresh vegetables and homemade treats as well as Mennonite quilts and other hand made items.

You can learn about ancient Aboriginal traditions at the Six Nations of the Grand River or visit the Joseph Schneider Haus Museum which is a circa 1816 homestead containing original artifacts which were used by the area¡¯s first German-Mennonite settlers.

If you are traveling with children, they will love a trip to the African Lion Safari in Cambridge where you can view lions, giraffes, zebras, baboons and more up close from the safety of your vehicle or catch a guided tour bus if you prefer not to have baboons hitching a ride on your vehicle.

You can take a trip to a beach along Ontario¡¯s west coast. Enjoy viewing the bluffs, catching a play or antiquing in one of the many shops.

If you enjoy wine tasting, take a trip out to Pelee Island where you can tour the Pelee Island Winery¡¯s wine pavilion or take a stroll through Point Pelee National Park where you can enjoy bird watching and sandy beaches. 

If you¡¯ve never viewed Niagara Falls, a visit there is a must. You can take a boat ride right beneath the falls and enjoy fireworks over the falls in the evenings. There are many attractions in Niagara Falls to amuse people of all ages from simulated rides, haunted houses, shows, tours, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos and much more.

To enjoy more of Ontario¡¯s nature, visit Ottawa Valley where you can can go whitewater rafting down the Ottawa River rapids, or explore Bonnechere Caves and all of it¡¯s many ancient sea fossils and stalactites.  Cross the Bonnechere River on a swinging footbridge or take the kids to the Storyland Family Park in Renfrew which is a classic storybook themed park which includes characters such as Cinderella and Snow White. Along with 32 story book scenes, there are also children¡¯s play areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, paddle boats, mini golf, a spray park and restaurant.

If you follow the Rideau Canal, you can stop by Fort Henry in Kingston where you can watch historical re-enactments and take a guided tour. Or stop in Ottawa, the nation¡¯s capital, to view the neo-Gothic architecture of Parliament buildings and catch the changing of the guard ceremonies from mid - June through August. During the winter months, you can go ice skating down the frozen Rideau Canal.

Before leaving the area, you can visit the St. Lawrence Seaway home of the1,000 Islands where many grand summer homes have built.

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy northern Ontario in all of its wild splendor.  Whether you are in search of a remote spot to launch your canoe or a great fishing hole, you can find it here. You may even catch a glimpse of a moose or caribou in the world¡¯s largest game preserve. In the winter, enjoy ice fishing and snowmobiling.

In Algoma County, visit Lake Superior Provincial Park where you can hike along one of it¡¯s many trails alongside cliffs and see Aboriginal paintings on Agawa rocks throughout the park. 

Pancake Bay Provincial park offers a nice sandy beach and scenic views or hop aboard the Agawa Canyon Train for a scenic ride into Ontario¡¯s northern wilderness.

To experience Ontario¡¯s arctic terrain including polar bears and whales, head to Ontario¡¯s James Bay Frontier. You can catch the Polar Bear Express train in Cochrane which will take you all the way to James Bay.  Visit an old gold mining town such as the Timmins Gold Mine, where you can descend 200 feet below ground and take a guided tour of the mine, or meet Aboriginal elders near Moosonee which was Canada¡¯s first permanent settlement.

If you head to the north shore of Lake Superior, you can visit Fort William Historical Park where the world¡¯s largest fur trading post has been reconstructed or visit Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park to view a 500 foot deep geological fault where sub-Arctic plants grow within its depths. Go sea kayaking in Pukaskwa National Park or visit the impressive 128' Kakabeca Falls near Thunder Bay where 200 year-old fossils remain. While in the Thunder Bay area, don¡¯t miss a stop to the Amethyst mine where you can dig your very own stone to take home with you.

Central Ontario has something for everyone with swimming beaches, grand resorts, rocky islands, cliffs, sand dunes, forests, fishing, skiing and snowmobiling, ice fishing and dogsled races during the winter months. Take a ride on a restored 1928 steam train and visit the Pioneer Village to experience life during the late 1800's at Muskoka Heritage Place. 

Whichever regions in Canada you choose to visit on your next trip, you are bound to find something of interest for all ages and your first trip to the region will definitely not be your last!
