People often look to the cities that are always in the headlines and gauge the happenings to determine whether or not they would like to pay it a visit or spend their vacation there. While Wichita may not often appear in the headlines, over the years it has been transformed into an excitingly dynamic tourist and visitor destination. And for the nightlife scene, Wichita does not disappoint.

The Wichita community holds an assorted selection of performing arts, fascinating museums, professional and collegiate sports, shopping and dining, and a diverse collection of live theater and entertainment options.

For the more cultured individual looking to spend an evening with fine dining and dressed to catch some winks, visit the recently formed Wichita Grand Opera, Kansas¡¯ first professional opera company. Because of the popularity and quality of the performances, the Wichita Grand Opera always enjoys a crowd. However, tickets are not that hard to come by. The season runs throughout the spring and summer; and a night at the opera is very enjoyable.

Before you go to the opera, you may have to spend time at one of Wichita¡¯s fine dinning establishments; and with over 1000 restaurants, there are plenty to choose from. Yet, Kansas is known for great barbeque, and Wichita is home of some the states frequent barbeque award winners. On one of your evenings, you must try Famous Dave¡¯s Barbeque that you¡¯ll find on 21st street. Witchitans, swear by Famous Dave¡¯s barbeque, which has won over 150 awards.

As always, you¡¯ll want to get your boogie on, and in Wichita the most fun spot has to be Bell Bottoms Disco. Bell Bottoms is a retro club that plays your favorite music from the 70¡¯s and 80¡¯s; their motto is you don¡¯t have to wear the pants, just do the dance. Bell Bottoms gives you everything you need to have a great dancing time including a clear, Plexiglas lighted floor. However, if you don¡¯t want to dance but you want to sing, try Stars Karaoke Bar. This place is pure fun. When you get up to sing a song, the bar provides a cast of employees to be your background singers and dancers who perform prepared routines while you ham it up. The bar even provides props so that everyone gets the most out of the performance. The bar employees keep things interesting by performing upbeat comedy routines in between the brave performers. 

Say you want to consolidate your activities. Wichita can handle that too. At the Warren Old Town Theater, you can get your dinner and a movie and after-dinner drinks in the same place and enjoy yourself all evening long. Upon entering, visitors will find Oscars sports bar with a 35-foot large screen television, the country¡¯s most expansive. You¡¯ll also find in-theater food and beverage service at the touch of a button in all theaters.

What great nightlife adventure would be complete without an opportunity to win some money? Rest assured, to feed the need, Wichita also has a Harrah¡¯s casino. The casino has a revered steak house and there are always conventions at the casino, which makes for a great crowd of visitors getting the most out of a good time. And of course, you can gamble all night in their expanded gaming facilities. 

Wichita has a lot to offer. Take it slow and you might be able to take it all in. The people are hospitable and the nightlife is certainly something not to miss.
