During holiday time, shopping can be more of a challenge than we＊d prefer.  There are some people on our list that are particularly hard to buy for, since they seem to have everything they need or aren＊t very forthcoming with what they＊d like to receive.  Perhaps the most frustrating response when someone is asked what they＊d like for the holidays is, ※Oh, I don＊t know.  I really can＊t think of (or don＊t want) anything.§  Quite often, grandparents fall into this category.  If you＊re out of gift giving ideas for grandma and grandpa this Christmas, here are a few suggestions.

GRANDMA

Surprise your grandmother this Christmas with a sterling silver charm pin.  Boy and girl charms can be added to this beautiful shirt or sweater pin to reflect the number of grandchildren she has.  Each of the charms can also include the birthstone and the engraved name of the grandchild that it represents.  This is a gift that＊s sure to warm grandma＊s heart!

If your grandmother loves to cook, a copy of the White House Cookbook is sure to make her eyes light up!  This wonderful book doesn＊t just include recipes from First Ladies; it comes complete with menus straight out of history, etiquette and special tips for the cook.  Now, grandma will have some delicious new recipes to add to her tried and true family dishes.

Retirees and other seniors often enjoy gardening in their spare time.  If this describes your grandmother, put together a gift basket which includes a variety of garden tools, gloves, gardening hat, a cushioned knee pad and an assortment of seeds.  You might also wish to use a large watering can instead of a basket for holding these garden goodies!  Use your imagination 每 and ask some subtle questions 每 to determine what she might most appreciate for her gardening activities this year.

There are few people who appreciate a homemade gift quite like a grandmother does.  Purchase a large frame that＊s suitable for holding a picture of your grandparents and is surrounded by smaller windows for pictures of their grandchildren.  Since there are endless varieties of frames to choose from, you should be able to accomplish this without too much difficulty.  When you＊re finished, you＊ll have a beautiful Grandparent＊s Photo Collage that she＊ll cherish for many years.

Purchase a year＊s subscription to your grandmother＊s favorite magazine and include the certificate in a beautiful gift bag or box with a tea or coffee cup and a few of her favorite munchies.  She＊ll be able to relax, sip a hot beverage and enjoy a snack while she reads through the latest edition of her choice publication!  What could be a better way to get some quiet time or just make the most out of a bad weather day?

Not all grandparents are content to do gardening and play sedentary games.  If you＊ve got the type of grandma who＊s rather energetic and enjoys outdoor activity 每 such as golf 每 set her up with some new equipment.  Golf clubs are not often replaced as adults mature, since the clubs don＊t have to be refitted due to growth spurts, and they become comfortable with their particular set.  If her clubs are already new or in very good condition, consider giving her other golf related supplies 每 or a gift certificate for time at her favorite golf course!

GRANDPA

If grandpa is a gardener, he＊ll enjoy receiving a gardening kit for men.  These are typically presented as wooden or metal kits (much like a tool kit) which include a variety of gardening tools, such as pruners, trowels and the like.  This fact that these tools are equipped with their own carrying case is a special benefit, since they＊ll allow him to pack them up and keep all of his tools together so that they don＊t get misplaced.  This is a ※must have§ for any man who enjoys yard work!

Pay attention to the sporting activities that he might enjoy, such as fishing or golf.  If you think he may be ready for some new equipment, Christmas is the perfect time to make that happen.  Grandpa will love a gift of this nature, and will certainly appreciate the fact that you took his hobbies and interests into consideration for a much more personal type of Christmas gift.

Should your grandfather have been in the military at some point during his life 每 whether it was for a short time, or a full-blown military career 每 consider assembling a memorial box that includes a photograph, medals and dog tags from his military days.  If you know that he received medals but they＊ve been misplaced (or if you can＊t locate his dog tags), these can be obtained by contacting the branch of government that he served in and requesting the items.  The branches of the military will send you duplicates of any medals, etc., that pertain to his military history at no charge.  Be sure to leave ample time for this, since it can sometimes take a few months to receive the items.

As we get older, our joints will often get stiff and sore due to arthritis.  Ease some of those back pains by giving grandpa a massaging seat cover for his car.  This wonderful invention will soothe his back as he drives, melting away the pain and discomfort and leaving him refreshed at his journey＊s end.  There are also varieties of this gift that will provide a bit of heat, as well as a massage.  Either way, he＊ll never dread making another car trip!

Most folks 每 especially older ones 每 enjoy sitting out on a cool evening to enjoy nature.  If he doesn＊t already have one, consider getting grandpa a Mission Swing.  For those of you who aren＊t familiar with this, it＊s a swing for the yard that has one long seat (a wooden bench type of seat and backing) with a canopy overhead to protect him from the sun and falling leaves or insects.  This would make a wonderful gift for him (and grandma would love it, too!).  He＊ll be looking forward to spring so that he can assemble it in the back yard.

A nice keepsake for your grandpa is a watch with the names of his grandchildren inscribed into the face of it.  These very attractive watches can often be found at jewelry stores (Limoges offers an exquisite version of this) and is both a practical and sentimental Christmas gift.  If you choose to, you can also inscribe a special message on the inner band of the watch, to personalize it further.  Grandpa will love to show off his new watch to family and friends!

If you prefer to give a combination gift to your grandparents, consider sending them on a trip to a favorite haunt or someplace new and exotic.  This can be accomplished through multiple family members combining their funds to purchase this luxurious gift if your budgetary constraints won＊t allow such a costly item.
