A wedding favor should be a parting gift of appreciation from the bride and groom to the wedding attendees.  It also should fit the theme of the wedding, the style of the couple, and if possible, create a lasting memory.  A wedding favor of a plant, seed or flower is a perfect method of making the wedding day memories last.  Try a few of these inexpensive and easy favor ideas.

Leave at each reception plate a homemade or store bought seed package glued or tied to a matchbook-type folder.  Inscribe on the folder the date, newlywed names and a phrase of thanks.  Try to match the seed packages to the theme of the wedding or the flowers used for bouquets or on the reception tables such as daisies, sunflowers or poppies.  If matching the flower is difficult, simply match the seed package to the color theme of the wedding.  If still difficult, use Forget-Me-Not seeds so the guests will never forget the happy couple.  Creating your own seed package is easy by purchasing seeds in bulk, wrapping in cellophane or a small bag and tying with a ribbon.  This is a great project for wedding attendants or the youngest family members.

Many stores specializing in party favors can emboss seeds onto plantable paper.  The paper can include printing of the wedding date, couple¡¯s names and a thank you phrase, as well as come in a variety of shapes and colors.  Some stores even offer the plantable paper in the form of a bookmark or ornament.  All, of course, include instructions on the papers use.  Keep in mind that professional printing services and delivery will require additional time so plan and order early. 

For the true gardeners, a favor of bulbs is always a pleasure.  Wrap tulip, lily or daffodil bulbs in cellophane, fancy favor boxes or miniature terra cotta pots.  If family artists are available, personalize each pot or favor with initials, hearts or a design.  Tie with a pretty ribbon, include growing instructions, and the attendees will remember the special day as the bulbs bloom in the spring.

If a little more time and effort are available, plant a bulb or two in a small but pretty pot and time their sprouting around the wedding day.  Wrap in tulle to allow aeration, tie with a pretty bow and don¡¯t forget the instructions.  This favor is particularly appreciated during winter months when tulip or lilies are far off.

If a live plant appeals as a wedding favor but flowers are too much for the budget or bulbs don¡¯t fit into the time schedule, try miniature plants in pretty pots.  Bright green pea plants will be a nice addition to any guest¡¯s garden and fit into a wedding with the simple phrase on a tag or ribbon of ¡°We¡¯re two peas in a pod.  Thanks for sharing our day.¡±

Or try a clover plant with the phrase, ¡°We¡¯re lucky to have friends like you.¡±

Don¡¯t be afraid to restrict seeds and flowers to the favors.  Instead of throwing rice or birdseed, create small packages of wildflower seeds to throw instead.  Attached seeds to the nametags used for seating charts or use them to decorate the reception tables instead of confetti.

In addition, many couples like to add a phrase or two of thanks to each favor.  For natural seed or flower favors try phrases such as:  ¡°All things grow with love,¡± or ¡°In our garden, love grows.¡±  Add a Thank You or other terms of endearment and the wedding favor will be certain to do its job.
