Wedding favors do not have to be expensive.  In this era of big weddings, many people are looking for ways to host a special event without having to mortgage the house.  

Here are a few ideas for gifts to present to your guests:

Many couples will not be living in the same town as many of their guests, therefore an excellent and inexpensive favor would be a book of postcards with the first postcard addressed to the newlyweds to help keep up communication after the wedding.

The computer can be utilized to download the couple's favorite songs and make a CD for all the guests.  This original soundtrack can also serve as a place card with the guest's name on it and their table number.  Another gift that can be made on the computer is an attractive scroll with the guest's name on it and notifying them that a donation has been made in their name to a favorite charity.

If you are creative, a small picture frame decorated with lovely dried flowers or fragrant eucalyptus can be made very inexpensively  This is always a welcome, useful gift.

If your wedding falls on or near any special holiday, there are a number of things you can do with chocolates.  Some suggestions would be chocolate turkeys for thanksgiving, flags for July 4th, a chocolate shamrock for St. Patrick's Day.  Winter weddings in the north can be chocolate snowflakes while in the south, palm trees.  Use your imagination and anything you can think of can be done in chocolate. A single chocolate rose for each couple is always appropriate for any time of year.  What woman guest would not be happy leaving your wedding with a small box of chocolates? Think about it. Woman plus Chocolates equals Satisfaction.

Keep in mind your special passion, if you are interested in gardening and are planning a wonderful summer wedding, you can easily put together a small flower arrangement with a special description of each flower and how it represents the qualities necessary for a successful marriage.  Even wild flowers have distinct meanings and can be illustrated on a simple scroll with the arrangement in a small vase. 

If you are a talented poet and have written a beautiful love poem, the computer can be used again to make up a scroll tied in beautiful ribbon

If writing is your forte, you may want to compose a lovely story about how you met and how your love has grown and how much you are thankful for the gift of family and friends to share your special day.  Romance is everything at a wedding.

If you are artistic you may want to include a rendering of your first meeting sharing your love for each other.  Along this vain an artist can be hired for the day to do funny flattering cartoon illustrations of your guests. Your guests will value these.

When keeping within your budget, you can, also, find marvelous trinket boxes and all sorts of glassware in closeout or liquidation stores. These stores buy up many quality overstocks and sell at a reasonable price. Purchase some beautiful colorful netting and ribbon to wrap them in.

Scented candles are always an appreciated useful gift.  Candles can also be made to reflect the season of surrounding holiday.  Liquidation stores always have an abundance of these items.

My all time favorite is to hire a person to take Polaroid pictures of your guests.  You might even rent Victorian wedding attire for your guests to be photographed in.  This memorable picture will be a treasured momentum of your wedding.
