Traditional 每 Church. If you don*t attend church, make a few phone calls. Many churches will rent their sanctuary. A pastor may require premarital counseling, though. Availability and pastor expectations should be something you check into early in your planning. If you want to see the inside of several churches in your area, start visiting during their services. You*ll get a good feel for the church, the flow and the seating availability.
Outdoor 每 Check the almanac for suspected weather. Ask a few people who*ve been around for awhile. In my town, we have a huge fair during the second weekend in June. It always pours on at least one of the days of the fair. Always. The weekend before and after are usually okay.
Check out parks, gardens and grounds of museums. Call the local parks liaison and find out what is available. Do you have an annual garden walk in your town? How about finding out if a garden is available the day or two after the event? Do you have a particular ※well-know§ (everybody oohs and aahs when they drive by) garden in town, make a phone call.
Hall 每 Simple one stop location. A reception hall can be suitable for the whole thing, ceremony and all. Decorate one area with extra oomph for the ceremony spot. Word of mouth and yellow pages are great ways to find a hall. Book early in the planning process.
Historical 每 The most beautiful buildings in your city may be landmark buildings. Check out the historical registry. Or look at the museums in your location. Some of them are housed in beautiful buildings. In our town, we have a four story 1800*s museum with the upper ballroom restored in all its glory. It*s a small location for a wedding, but you can*t beat it for atmosphere.
Water 每 You can marry on a boat, you can marry on a float. If you think you might turn green, try a dock or lakeside scene. Sorry#seriously, water is a great location. A sandy beach with waves lapping at your ankles (avoid hurricane season). A glass like lake complete with serene, floating waterfowl. Sunset at the water*s edge is a great d谷cor idea. If you marry during mosquito season, check into debugging your guests. You can make a water wedding casual or dressy.
Theme 每 Are you a diehard romantic? Nothing less than Tara will do for you, shoot for the closest thing to Tara that you can reach. Scout around for a location that feels Tara-esque. It doesn*t have to be complete, you can add your own touches, but if it pushes a button, you are halfway there.
Is your dream wedding an African Safari without the $10,000 per person travel price tag? Check out a local compromise. Would your local zoo allow a wedding in front of the lion cage? My local zoo has a great reception hall that nestles against their jungle exhibit. We went to an after dark wedding and enjoyed quite a bat show during the reception. Another time, we did a 4H sleepover at the aquarium. After traditional hours, the animals come out of their shells. I*ve never seen anything more fascinating than the midnight dance of the undulating octopus. He would make a great addition to an interesting underwater wedding theme.
Quirky 每 The category for fun and crazy. This is the one that covers mountaintops, underwater, hot air balloons, and baseball fields. You might be amazed at the ※ordinary§ people who are certified to perform weddings. A sport team chaplain, a scuba captain, ask around. A friend of mine got married underwater. She even had a silk greenery bouquet with glued on sea shells. She would recommend that you skip the glitter, she had a very interested school of grouper that felt the need to investigate.
If you want quirky, choose something that means something to you. Now is not the time to develop a new skill while planning a wedding. You should already be an expert sky diver if you plan to marry on the descent. If you and/or your spouse-to-be are rodeo clowns, perfect opportunity, get married in the barrels. Instead of a unity candle you could have separate barrels and then both shimmy into one.
If you want a quirky location, start asking around about availability and details. Dream big and be willing to compromise and you may headed to your dream wedding.
