Using candles as wedding favors can be both fun and cost-effective. With the vast selection of candles on the market today, you can do virtually anything to make your wedding day memorable for friends and loved ones. 

1. Select a candle scent or color that compliments your wedding theme. Type up a little thank you from the bride and groom and include your address, phone number and/or email so people can stay in touch with you. You can print this on nametags, and with a simple peel and stick, you are finished. Any type of jar candle will do for this favor. For a little extra decoration, you can add a ribbon that matches the candle or your wedding colors. 

2. A picture perfect favor. Choose any size glass candleholder.  Make sure they are clean. Pick a light colored tissue paper. One that matches your wedding theme will work nicely. Tear the paper into small sections. Using decoupage glue and a paintbrush glue the tissue paper onto the candleholder. On the first piece place the glue on the back of the paper and stick it to the holder. Then brush some more glue on the top of the tissue paper. Keep doing this until the candleholder is covered. Make sure you are overlapping the tissue paper. Glue tissue paper to the bottom as well. Stand the candleholder on its top and let dry. Brush one more coat of decoupage over the entire holder and let it dry for one hour. Find or take a good picture of you and your fianc¨¦. Cut it out to fit the holder. Brush some glue on the back and stick it to the candleholder. Now brush one more coat of decoupage over the entire holder. Let dry. Add candles, and you are finished.

3. Using the same idea as above, you can make stained-glass votives. Instead of adding a picture, use tissue paper that compliments your wedding colors. Cut the tissue paper into straight-line designs. Glue them onto the votive. After the decoupage has dried, use black dimensional paint to outline each piece. Let dry. Add votive candle.

4. A candle with a lid can make an inexpensive and unique wedding favor. Using the ideas from above you can choose a color or scent that will compliment your wedding. On the outside of the jar you can add a personal message and your new information. For decorating inside the lid, you have many options. First, you need to get a screwdriver and remove the plastic stopper. Next, pick the type of decoration you would like to add to the lid. This could be anything that represents the theme of your wedding: flowers, pictures, or any other type object. After adding the decoration, place the plastic stopper back in the lid. 

5. Tin cans can be used for more than just coffee and soup. If you have a hammer and a nail, you can complete this project. If you have a drill or dremel, it will help make things easier. For this favor I would recommend empty soup cans. Fill your soup cans with water and allow them to freeze overnight. This will make adding the design easier and will keep the can from denting or bending. Decide on a pattern. Two simple interlocking hearts work nicely. Draw or print a copy of your design to fit your cans. Use this as a pattern. Use your hammer and nail, drill or dremel to punch the holes. Add a candle and you are finished. If you would like, you can add a matching ribbon around the top, or you can paint the outside of the can. Dark colors look better with the light shining through. 

6. For a simple favor that will remind your guests of your special day every time you light it, all you need is a votive candle, a holder, and some dimensional paint. Use the paint to write your names and the date on the holder. Add a candle that compliments your theme.

7. Gel candles are another easy favor idea. Decide on the type of gel you would like to use-heated on the stove, heated in the microwave, or squirted from a tube. Find a color that compliments your day. Follow the directions on the package. You can add to the candle by finding wax or other non-burning decorative items.

8. Colored sand or marbles can be used to make a candle favor. Pick a glass container large enough to hold the sand or marbles. Place them in the bottom of the container. Place the votive in the middle.

9. Beeswax candles are both easy and quick to make. Purchase sheets of beeswax in the desired colors. Make the wick an inch longer than you want you candle to be. Warm up the beeswax by using your hair dryer on it for about 15 seconds. Roll the wax to the desired width of your candle. Make two candles. Tie them to together with some raffia, and add a personalized note or your new address.

10. For a spring or summer wedding favor, purchase miniature clay pots and candles. Cover the bottom of the pot with a piece of tape. Fill the pot with potting soil, and add a candle.
