The ladies you select to be your bridesmaids are very important to you ¨C they are usually family members and dear friends who you have a close relationship with.  They will help you to organize your wedding, and they will calm your nerves when the planning starts to stress you out.  Tradition says that they ward off evil spirits so that the bride can safely enter into a happy marriage.  Since your bridesmaids play such an important role in the wedding party, you will want to pick out gifts that will reflect your gratitude and your love for them.  You want to select something that captures the spirit of your friendship, and the significance of this day in your life.

Here are some suggestions:  

1.  Charm Bracelets.  There really is something special about charm bracelets.  Each tiny charm is a symbol of something personal to the recipient.  If you decide to give your bridesmaids charms bracelets, they should all have some of the same charms and some different ones.  For example, you might give everyone a wedding charm, such as a miniature wedding dress, or wedding cake¡­ there are lots of wedding-related charms out there.  You might also give everyone a heart charm, or a horseshoe, clover, or wishbone charm for good luck.  Then you should select different charms, like a horse charm for your cousin who loves riding, or an apple for your friend who is a teacher.  If any of your bridesmaids are mommies, you can get charms that represent each of their children.  You could also get their initials as charms.  Women love getting these bracelets as gifts because they are so thoughtfully selected, and they are so unique.  They will be able to wear these at your wedding, so make sure that you get either silver or gold, depending on which one you will be wearing.

2.  Spa Treatments.  A day of beautification and relaxation is a fabulous way to show your bridesmaids how much they mean to you.  You can get facials, body wraps, manicures, pedicures, massages, and more!  It will be a great opportunity to bond with your female companions and de-stress before you take your vows.  You and your bridesmaids will leave with a radiant glow, and a less-panicked disposition.  This is an excellent gift choice because it will help you and your bridesmaids to look and feel refreshed for your special day.  Make sure that nobody does anything drastic while you are there that could result in a red, blotchy complexion.  For instance, if your sister has never been in a tanning bed, now is definitely not the time to start!  I recommend that you go to the spa one to three days before the wedding.  If you go on the morning of the wedding, you will be too jittery to enjoy it, and you will feel rushed.  

3.  Monogram or Birthstone Necklaces.  Since most brides have their bridesmaids in matching dresses and shoes -- maybe even hair -- it is nice to offer them a little individuality for their jewelry.  Birthstone necklaces are a great choice.  Also, you could put two stones on each necklace -- hers and yours, to represent her standing beside you on your wedding day.  Monogram necklaces are also popular, and you can often find monograms that incorporate a birthstone.  One of the best things about giving a birthstone or monogram necklace is that they can be worn after the wedding.  These are simple pieces that look nice dressed up or down, and, as you know, women love versatility.

4.  Sandals or Ballet Slippers.  Sure, heels are appropriate for walking elegantly down the aisle, but once the party gets started, we want to toss off our heels and dance.  Instead of having a bunch of barefoot bridesmaids at the reception, treat them to some comfortable footwear.  Buy some simple sandals to match their dresses -- you might be able to find some with a little bow or flower on top, or you can just tie a ribbon into a bow on yourself.  Ballet slippers are another nice-looking and comfy option... and you could certainly get a white satin pair for yourself too!

5.  "Of the Month" Clubs.  Getting "Of the Month" gifts is always fun.  There are so many options out there now.  Gourmet coffees and teas are one.  Fresh flowers are another.  Recipes are yet another.  You can even find wine-of-the-month clubs.  You can personalize these, too -- give your caffeine-addicted sister the coffee club, give your green-thumbed girlfriend the potted plants, etc.  They will be touched by the thought that you put in to make each one of them happy.         

Whatever gifts you decide to give, always remember to include a handwritten note or greeting card to thank your bridesmaids for all of their help and support during this exciting time in your life.
