Few young people have enjoyed such public success as the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley. They were born on June 13, 1986 in Sherman Oaks, California to parents David and Jarnette Olsen. Before they were even a year old, Mary-Kate and Ashley¡¯s parents took them to audition for a role on a new TV show called ¡°Full House.¡± The twins were perfect for the role of Michelle Tanner. At first, the producers were slow to admit that the role of Michelle was shared by the twins, and so the twins were credited only as Mary Kate Ashley Olsen. Michelle quickly became one of the most popular characters on the series, and with her popularity, Mary-Kate and Ashley began a very successful career.

During their years on ¡°Full House,¡± Mary-Kate and Ashley formed their own production company, Dualstar, along with Robert Thorne. At six years old, the twins became the youngest producers in history.  In 1993 the twins recorded an album titled ¡°Brother For Sale.¡± Their music video, ¡°Our First Video¡± was at the top of Billboard¡¯s music video chart within three weeks. This quadruple-platinum video remained at number one for twelve weeks, and stayed in the top ten for a total of 157 weeks. Mary-Kate and Ashley¡¯s success didn¡¯t stop there. They starred in their first movie, ¡°To Grandmother¡¯s House We Go,¡± in 1992, followed by ¡°Double, Double, Toil and Trouble¡± in 1993, and ¡°How the West Was Fun¡± in 1994. The twins also created their own series of musical detective videos, ¡°The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley.¡± They starred in a second series called ¡°You¡¯re Invited to Mary-Kate and Ashley¡¯s.¡± In 1995, the twins made their big screen debut in ¡°It Takes Two.¡±

When ¡°Full House¡± went off the air in 1995, many thought the widespread fame of the twins would fade away. However, Mary-Kate and Ashley have continued to be successful in the industry. They returned to TV in the short-lived series, ¡°Two of a Kind,¡± in 1998, and again in 2001 for ¡°So Little Time.¡± They also have their own magazine, clothing line and perfume. They have starred in several popular movies, including ¡°Passport to Paris¡± in 1999, ¡°Holiday in the Sun¡± in 2001, and ¡°New York Minute¡± in 2004.

Family has always been important for Mary-Kate and Ashley. They have an older brother Trent, and a younger sister Elizabeth, both of whom have had guest roles with the twins on a few occasions. Although Jarnie and David divorced while the twins were young, they continued to manage the twins¡¯ careers together. Despite their success, Mary-Kate and Ashley wanted to live as much like normal young girls as they could. Even though they became the youngest self-made millionaires in American history before they were ten years old, the twins still received a modest weekly allowance during their childhood.

Shortly after the twins celebrated their eighteenth birthday in June 2004, Mary-Kate reportedly checked herself into a treatment facility to receive therapy for an eating disorder. She left the rehabilitation program in July. Mary-Kate and Ashley began attending college in September 2004 at New York University. They continue to remain popular and successful worldwide.
