Getting married is one of the most exciting times in a person¡¯s life. Everyone wants their wedding to be special and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Church weddings are great, but some people like to do something a little different. There are several interesting locations to hold a wedding in Milwaukee.
If the couple likes the outdoors and flowers and the like, the Boerner Botanical Gardens is an excellent place to hold a wedding. A permit is required and you must pay for the location, but you will be surrounded by trees, grass, and flowers depending on the season. The site is not completely private as the Gardens remain open to the public, but you have a small section reserved for your two hour block.
Most parks in the Milwaukee County park system are also available to rent for your wedding ceremony and/or reception. Having a wedding at one of these parks will require the purchase of a picnic permit or a building permit depending on what features you will be using. There are also non-designated picnic areas where weddings can take place. These require a special event permit. Each park has their own set of restrictions and should be researched before reserving the park to make sure that your needs will be met.
Another option is renting out the Milwaukee County Zoo for your wedding. Rates range in price from $400 for a day time reservation at the Zoofari Conference Center up to $7500 plus admissions for reserving the entire zoo. You are also able to reserve picnic areas, animal buildings, or the Peck Welcome Center. All these options allow for a wide variety that will fit anyone¡¯s style.
1451 Renaissance Place is an old church that is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is truly a magical place. It contains marble fountains, elegant fireplaces, and exquisite woodwork and boasts a vaulted ceiling. This location can accommodate a large group of people, but for groups smaller than 400, the foyer is a great place to hold a wedding as well.
If you would like a more Old World style wedding, the Alpine Village would also be a good choice. Ceremonies are held outside in the courtyard areas. The village has a Medieval Bridal Chamber and the Groom¡¯s Casino in which the bride and groom can get ready for their big day. Marriages are commemorated by the ringing of the 3000 pound wedding bell which hangs in the Bridal Tower.
The Red Circle Inn is another one of Wisconsin¡¯s historic locations. This restaurant was founded in 1848. The inn is located just half an hour outside of Milwaukee. Couples can be married either in the Garden Room which overlooks the landscaped garden or in the Patio Room which has vaulted wood ceilings and a large fieldstone fireplace. Both are very romantic.
Choosing your wedding location is a special part of the wedding. The setting sets the tone for the entire wedding to come. If the bride and groom choose to have a wedding somewhere other than the traditional church setting, it will make for a very memorable event, not only for themselves, but also for their guests.
