If you are planning a wedding or have ever planned a wedding, you know that there are many different aspects that go into the organization of this event.  Wedding planners or coordinators have become increasing popular.  Whether you choose to hire a professional or do all the work yourself, there will still be many decisions to make.

The task of planning the reception can be one of the most overwhelming parts of the entire event.  How is one to plan this reception and have it go over properly so that all the guests are happy and comfortable?  The reception is very important because it allows your guests to socialize with each other and the bride and groom, so that they feel included in this special event.  

The Music

Music is important during the wedding but it is also important for the reception. You might even get the same band or musician to perform during both the ceremony and the reception. Music for the reception should not be overwhelming because you want the guests to be able to talk and mingle.

The Cake

The cake is always considered an important part of the wedding and makes its appearance during the reception. The type of cake should be planned out beforehand and in some cases there is also a groom¡¯s cake. This is common, especially when there are a lot of guests. You should plan where the cake, or cakes, will be set up. You will also need to plan where all the other tables will be, how people will line up to move through the serving line or buffet, and who will be serving the cake.

The Food

If you are also serving other foods this will require a great deal of thought and organization. Will you provide a full three-course meal or just snacks and appetizers? How will the food be served? How will you have it set up for the guests? Who is making the food? Will you have a caterer? A catering service is probably the best way to go to if you choose to serve several prepared items.  The caterers will also help set the food up for a buffet table or assist in serving the food. 

You will also need to decide what types of plates, silverware, and napkins you will have at the reception. Most people choose disposable and there are some very elegant options available in throw-away dinnerware.  

The Entertainment

Music can be a large part of the entertainment, but you may want to provide other forms of entertainment also. It depends on the audience and the couple getting married.  You may want to provide a DJ for dancing or an announcer who will organize games for the children and adults alike.

If you do decide to have music or other forms of entertainment at the wedding reception, then you need to have it well planned out beforehand and you will also want to have a back-up plan just in case something doesn¡¯t go exactly as planned.
