Planning a wedding is a stressful and exciting time, and the bride and groom will need all the help they can get!  Here is a run-down of the wedding party responsibilities:

THE BRIDE AND GROOM

There are some aspects of the wedding that you should decide upon jointly.  First of all, you should tell your families and friends your exciting news together!  Next, when do you want to get married?  Decide what season and what month you are interested in first, then nail down a date.  Decide how large you want your wedding party to be, and who you want to be in it.  Once you have made your final selections, ask all of them if they would like to be in your wedding, and make sure that they have no conflicts with the date.  After you have done the fun stuff, the most important issue should be talked about -- the budget.  Who is paying, and how much money is available for the event?  If you set a budget before you make any wedding-related purchases, then you will be saving yourself lots of time and frustration down the road.  After your budget talks, research sites for your ceremony and reception, and book the locations as far in advance as possible.  Also, one of the activities that is fun to share is the cake tasting (finally, an excuse to break your wedding diet)!

THE BRIDE 

Brides do the most, whether they like it or not.  It's your wedding, so if you want things to run smoothly and according to your vision of a perfect wedding day, then you really do have to take the reigns.  First off, you are going to be delegating the responsibilities to the other wedding party members -- and to your groom.  You have to stay relaxed and calm -- don't turn into a "bridezilla."  As many past brides will tell you, the groom is basically just there to nod and smile during the engagement.  No matter how much you wish he was, your fianc¨¦ is not obsessed with color schemes or bridesmaid dresses or floral table centerpieces.  Feel free to run all of your ideas by him, but don't get mad if you don't get a ton of feedback.  Remember, you are marrying this man because you love him, not because of his event planning expertise!  Do not allow the wedding to put a damper on your relationship -- it is not worth it.  You have plenty of other people to help you decide on the details -- you maid of honor, your bridesmaids, your mother, etc.  

MAID OF HONOR

The maid of honor (or matron of honor, if she is already married), will be your savior throughout the wedding planning.  Choose her wisely.  Here are her duties (adjust them according to your own personal needs):

- Helps the bride pick out her dress 

- Helps the bride to choose the bridesmaid dresses

- Helps the bride to pick out the tuxedos for the groom, best man, and groomsmen

- Buys her own dress and shoes and any additional accessories

- Makes sure that the bridesmaids have purchased their dresses and shoes and any additional accessories

- Organizes the bridal shower

- Organizes the bachelorette party

- Helps the bride to run any errands, such as to the florist, the caterer, etc.

- Attends the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

- Helps the bride get dressed and ready the morning of the wedding

- Provides endless emotional support for the nervous and stressed-out bride-to-be

- Hold the bride's bouquet while she and her groom exchange vows

BEST MAN

- Pays for his tuxedo and shoes (or for the rentals)

- Makes sure that the groomsmen have gotten their tuxedos and shoes

- Organizes the bachelor party

- Attends rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

- Drives with the groom to the ceremony

- Provides emotional support to the groom, especially on the morning of the wedding 

- Makes a speech at the reception

- Hold the wedding rings until the appropriate time in the ceremony

- Returns the groom's tuxedo rental 

- Decorates the couple's car with "Just Married" paraphernalia

BRIDESMAIDS

- Pay for their dresses, shoes, and accessories

- Help the maid of honor to organize the bridal shower

- Help the maid of honor with the bachelorette party

- Assist the bride with any tasks, such as addressing the invitations, making favors, etc.

- Attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

- Help the bride get ready - and stay calm - on the day of the wedding

GROOMSMEN

- Pay for their tuxedo and shoe rentals

- Attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

- Help the best man organize the bachelor party

- Help the groom through his jitters, especially on the day of the wedding

- Help the best man decorate the newlywed's car
