Wedding favors are meant to be a small token of appreciation given by the bride and groom to the wedding attendees.  Representing a ¡°thank you,¡± they also serve as a memory of the happy event.  Most favors include the bride and groom¡¯s name, the date and phrasing that expresses gratitude.  To create a personal touch, a homemade favor is best and everyone is grateful for a little edible treat. With a little time, effort and creativity, any of the following favors can be a hit.

Cook and decorate bite-size cookies to fit a romantic theme.  Place in clear treat bags, wrap with a color coordinating ribbon, and add a tagged phrase to suit the treat.  Some suggestions; red and pink hearts or wedding bells can be wrapped and phrased as ¡°Cooking up a lifetime of sweetness!¡±  or cookies in the shape of  ¡°o¡¯s¡± and ¡°x¡¯s¡± (Hugs and Kisses) can be phrased as ¡°A warm hug and kiss to thank you for coming.¡±   Even the theme of the wedding can dictate the cookie shape.  A country western theme can be remembered with cookie boots and the phrase, ¡°Thanks for kicking off our life to together!¡± or a formal wedding can prompt top hat shaped cookies with the phrasing, ¡°Our hats are off to you for coming!¡±  Creativity is the key to success with this simple cookie favor.

If creativity isn¡¯t a strong point, simple sugar cookies can be wrapped and tied, add a small cookie cutter in any shape to the bag with the phrasing, ¡°We were cut out for each other.¡±  This creates a romantic and happy favor that will be remembered as the attendee uses the cookie cutter for their next batch of goodies.

Chocolates, white, dark, flavored or not; in any simple shape will always be a welcome edible favor.  Depending upon your skill level, create ornate or simple molded favors and place in a clear bag or a fancy favor box.  A simple phrase of ¡°Thanks for making our celebration so sweet¡± will complete the treat.

If a sweet treat isn¡¯t desired or doesn¡¯t fit the couple or wedding, try a mixture of dried nuts and fruits in a cloth bag, or nuts in their shells, such a Walnuts, Almonds or Brazil nuts, tied with a ribbon and nutcracker.  Since the bride and groom are ¡°Nuts for each other,¡± it¡¯s a fitting favor and rather fun even for the smallest wedding attendees.

Purchase tealeaves in bulk or flavored tea bags and place in a mug wrapped with tulle or fabric.  Or, pair specialty coffees with a plastic spoon dipped in chocolate.  Add a ribbon or tag with the newlyweds¡¯ names, wedding date and the phrase, ¡°The Perfect Blend,¡± and they will be remembered the very next morning or evening when the attendee makes a cup of coffee or tea.

For a summer or fall wedding, fill a transparent bag with two small pears and tie with ribbon.  Attach a label to the bag with the couple¡¯s names, wedding date and the wording, ¡°The Perfect Pear.¡±  A little corny, of course, but worth the effort, groans and rolled eyes.
