A few months ago my son and his girlfriend decided to get married and I had the opportunity to help them decorate the reception hall. In an effort to put together a wedding and reception in a pretty short time they decided that they were going to do a lot of things themselves. I never realized how many nice accents could be added to a wedding reception simply by making them yourself.
Some of the prettiest arrangements can be made by using candles. Candles make everything look so inviting and romantic. It will give the reception hall a warm and cozy feel.
There are so many arrangements that you could use candles in that I have outlined a few that you may want to consider when planning your wedding reception:
? Votive candles can be placed in clear stemware sitting on top of matching colored sand. You can tie silk ivy and flowing bows around the base of the glasses to add to this look. I would recommend that you use one glass per table, or if you are using long tables, one glass per every eight people.
? For an attractive centerpiece, find a beautifully shaped crystal bowl and add some rose shaped floating candles to the top. These come in an assortment of colors so you could find the candles to compliment your wedding colors or theme. This makes a very attractive presentation as a centerpiece when lit. Not only is it a beautiful centerpiece but it is easy to assemble.
? For some elegant candles to add to the bride and grooms table, arrange hand blown glass candlesticks assorted heights to their table. Add floating candles that compliment the wedding colors. Be sure that the candlesticks are large enough to hold floating candles.
? Hourglass shaped glass cylinders add a different yet elegant look to your tables. You can put roses under the bottom part (or whatever flower you have decided on that is used in the bride¡¯s bouquet) and put a floating candle in the top part. This is very pretty.
? To compliment your wedding colors, you can get glass bowls and put colored glass chips in the bottom of the bowl. Add floating candles to the top.
The one that was selected for my son¡¯s reception was the first idea. To begin with, the tables were draped with white table cloths. Beautiful glasses were filled with sand and candles were then placed in the center of the glasses. Each of these glasses were placed on each table. Ivy and bows were attached to the stem of the glass. Gold heart shaped confetti was sprinkled on top of the table cloths. Right before the guests arrived the candles were lit - what a beautiful look. This made the prettiest accents to the reception. Plus the glasses made a nice keepsake for the bride and groom to keep after the reception was over.
A word of caution about using candles - please be very careful when using candles and never leave a lit candle unattended.
