Planning a wedding can be an exciting and trying time for the bride, groom and all parties involved.  For the bride, her bridesmaid and maid-of-honor are essential to success.  Moral support, party planning, decision making, errand running and general keeping the peace are all duties that are required of the bridesmaid.  The bride, if time permits, can state her appreciation to her attendants in many ways.  Try a few of these suggestions and make a bridesmaid¡¯s day.

Whether the wedding includes a large bridal party or a small one, try to include at least one bridal attendant, and more if possible, in many of the decisions that need to be made.  Ask opinions on reception locations, take someone to check out the facilities, ask for help addressing invitations, selecting or creating favors, or flower design, and, of course, have as many attendants as possible help select a wedding gown and their own dresses.  Inclusion in the decisions will make each attendant feel special and truly important.

While planning the wedding try to send notes or e-mails of thanks to each attendant.  Update them with a letter about plans that have been confirmed, samples or pictures of flowers, digital photos of an event, swatches of the dress material or just funny antidotes that occur.  Updates do take time to create but are appreciated especially for the attendant that is out of town, can¡¯t attend a function, or is too far away to be completely involved.

Throw an attendant luncheon a few weeks before the wedding.  This luncheon can be something formal at a restaurant or something simple at the bride¡¯s home.  Throw a breakfast for those that are truly busy, a dessert party for evening attendees or a cookout for those that can spare an afternoon. 

Consider including a charm cake at any luncheon to honor the attendants.   To make a charm cake, bake or purchase a plain bundt cake.  Purchase small charms from a toy or bake store and attach to a long ribbon.  Place the charm in the center of the cake with the ribbon flowing over the side.  Hide the charms by placing fresh flowers in the center of the cake.  Instruct each attendant to pull a ribbon from the cake and the charm they receive is their fortune for a month.  Example of charms may include a coin for wealth, a four-leaf clover for luck, or an airplane for upcoming travel.  Try to purchase charms that fit your attendant¡¯s style or upcoming events.

At the rehearsal, surprise your attendants with a fortune bouquet.  Purchase enough flowers to give one to each attendant.  Wrap each flower with a ribbon and a creative fortune such as; ¡°You will marry your true love,¡± or ¡°Happiness will always be yours.¡±  The bride can utilize all the flowers as a practice bouquet and at the end of the rehearsal, each attendant will select her flower and fortune.

The day of the wedding will be long, hectic, fun and full of emotion.  Create snack boxes for the limo or dressing room for the attendants.  Line a box with wax paper and fill with finger foods such as dried fruit, cookies, fruit slices or pretzels.  A snack box on hand will improve the moral and the energy level of all attendants.

In addition, before anyone marches down the isle, give each a tissue pouch.  Fill a palm sized envelope with two or three tissues so those unexpected tears won¡¯t ruin makeup.

Finally, don¡¯t forget the bridesmaid and maid-of-honor gifts to really express your gratitude and thanks.
