As a ¡°thank you¡± to those that help make your wedding celebration special, a wedding favor should be a gift from the heart as well as a remembrance to the departing guest.  Though most favors include the newlywed¡¯s names, the ceremony date and phrasing of ¡°many thanks,¡± or a variation, they can also be fun and unique.  One way to make them interesting and unforgettable is to have your guests create them as they chat and dine at the reception.  Craft levels of your guests will vary so be certain the favor is simple.  Try a few of these ideas and be certain to enlist the help of the youngest guests ¨C they add imagination and a youthful spirit.

Place at each setting a large sugar cookie in the shape of a wedding cake, flower, heart or other fitting theme.  Include icing pens, sprinkles and other edible decorations so each guest can make their unique cookie.  Remember to include a plastic bag so the cookie will last beyond the reception hall.  Printed ribbons or stickers with the newlywed¡¯s names and wedding date will seal the bag and complete the fun.

Place an envelope at each setting informing guests that a monetary donation will be made in their name to the charity of their choice.  Have them fill in the card and return at their convenience.

Utilize small photo frames as a seating chart and have an instant camera at each table.  Guests can take photographs of each other, the fun, the newlywed couple or anything that strikes their fancy and have an instantly framed remembrance.

Purchase blank, good quality stationary and wrap a number of notes and envelopes with a ribbon leaving it at each setting.  Leave love themed ink stamps and ink pads at each table and allow guest to create their own personal note cards.

If a beach theme fits in with your celebration, create a small sand box as the reception table¡¯s centerpiece and throw in some toys such as small Frisbees or blow-up beach balls or shells for playing.  Leave a corked bottle with a thank you note in it for guest to fill with sand and a toy to take home. 

With a little planning a thank you card puzzle, perhaps with a photo of the newlyweds and a warm sentiment, can be created or ordered.   Wrap puzzle pieces in a small box or bag and have each guest put the pieces together.  

Create your own word search puzzle or cryptogram that indicates how honored and appreciative the guest¡¯s presence means.  Hide words like thank you, gratitude, enjoy, and memories; or create a cryptogram that spells out a cute saying or poem.

Place full bowls of chocolate hugs and kisses in all varieties at each table.  Add a small plastic bag with a wedding themed sticker so guests can create their own take home favor.  Address the sticker with the newlywed¡¯s names and wedding date and the saying, ¡°Please fill your bag with our thankful hugs and kisses.¡±   Of using heart shaped candies, change the saying to, ¡°Please take home our many heart-filled thanks.¡±

And the simplest of all is to place lottery tickets at each setting and have your guests try to be as lucky as you are today.

Don¡¯t be afraid to take the create-you-own-favor step.  It¡¯s a great way for guests to really remember your celebration and leave with something they really might use or want.
