A baby shower is a fantastic way to help a new mommy-to-be prepare for the baby that is about to arrive. If she was worried she would not be prepared for the baby before the shower, she will feel a weight lifted off her shoulders during the party as she gets ¡°showered¡± with gifts of clothes, accessories and diapers for her baby. Showers also serve as great outlets for more experienced moms to give advice and answer questions for the expecting mom. If you are planning on hosting a baby shower for a friend or relative, why not use one of the following fun baby shower themes to make the party a day to remember?
When I discovered I was pregnant, I, of course, told my best friend right away. Despite her own well-intentioned advice not to get caught up in the planning of the baby too quickly, she waited one day to start planning my baby shower. She decided that she wanted to do a book theme party, so the entire party would revolve around books and literature. The invitations would have the name of a famous children¡¯s book on the front cover and then open up to reveal the information for the baby shower inside. The cake would be specially made to look like an open book and have my favorite children¡¯s book as the theme (¡°Goodnight, Moon¡± by Margaret Brown). The hostess will request that guests bring a children¡¯s book to the party to offer to the expectant mom. This book-theme shower is a great way to build up the baby¡¯s library, before she is even born. Games and decorations can also be easily centered around a literature theme.
If you have a pregnant friend whose idea of a great time is a little more laid-back and quiet, then why not throw her a proper tea party baby shower. Guests can sip on tea and snack on cucumber sandwiches and small cakes for an elegant affair. Be sure to use fancy decorations, like white linens, porcelain cups and crystal glasses for this delicate theme. The hostess may request that guests dress in their Sunday best for the shower.
When the baby arrives, Mom and Dad will not be keeping regular hours so why not have a ¡°clockwork¡± theme for the baby shower. On the invitations, guests can be ¡°assigned¡± a certain time of day (or a specific hour, if you wish), like morning, afternoon, evening or midnight. This will determine what type of gift the guest should bring. For example, if a guest receives an invitation with ¡°morning¡± specified, she may want to bring a gift of items associated with morning, like bathing accessories, packs of onesies or hair accessories. On the other hand, if a guest receives an invitation with ¡°midnight¡± specified, she may want to bring items associated with the late night, like packs of diapers, formula cans, bottles, baby powder and wipes. Decorations of suns and moons can be hung and games dealing with different parts of the day can be played.
While most baby showers focus on ¡°showering¡± the expectant mother with items for her baby¡¯s arrival, you can also change the theme a bit to make the shower focused more on pampering the mother. Along with gifts for the baby, the mother can also receive gifts like warm slippers, massage gift certificates, foot soaks and bubble bath. After all, she will soon be faced with long nights of feedings and diaper-changes and little time to pamper herself. |
