SETTING

If you＊ve decided on having an outdoor wedding, you still have to decide what type of outdoor wedding it is that you wish to have. Have you envisioned yourselves on a beachfront?  Would you prefer a country-style affair? Is there a vineyard that you＊ve had your eye on? Perhaps your family has a beautiful estate, and you have always wanted to get married on the grounds. There are several different options for outdoor weddings that you should consider. Many receptions sites have both indoor and outdoor accommodations for weddings, and if you go with one of these venues, you will have the comfort of knowing that if the weather is bad your guests can be accommodated inside. You should try to come up with a back-up plan for rain, such as a tent or an alternate location. Having a ※rain date§ for your wedding is an option, but in my opinion it＊s not a good one. You probably have guests traveling from out of town to be at the wedding, and it is unlikely that they will be able to make the trip twice in the case that it rains. You will likely lose a substantial portion of your guest list if you have to move your wedding to the rain day. Also, it will be very frustrating for you and your fianc谷 to have to push off your big day that you have been eagerly anticipating for so long.  If you have a large wedding party, it will be difficult to ensure that all of the members will be able to make both dates available for you.  You also need to make seasonal considerations if you want an outdoor affair.  Try to stick with the season that poses the least hurdles to planning a wedding 每 snow and ice make the trip down the aisle quite slippery!  

COMFORT CONSIDERATIONS

An outdoor wedding can be a beautiful thing, but if you don＊t take comfort into consideration, an outdoor wedding can also be a painstaking affair for you and your guests.  If you are going to be in a grassy area, then pointy heels will dig into the ground and cause your dancing abilities to be worse than with two left feet.  You could even run the risk of tripping down the aisle 每 never the memory a bride wants to make.  Make sure your guests are well-aware of what the environment is going to be 每 tell the women to wear sandals or flats.  Your invitations should include any information that your guests will need for dressing.  Long dresses might also be uncomfortable, so you could allow cocktail attire or semi-formal dress.  If it is likely to be very hot on your wedding day, then tuxedos could really impede your groom＊s and groomsmen＊s enjoyment of the day.  If you are dead set on having a very formal look for your wedding album, then at least allow the members of the wedding party to change into something a little less stuffy after the pictures are taken.  You should also consider supplying guests with sunscreen, sunglasses, and bug spray if you feel that it will be beneficial.  Setting up citronella candles on the tables can help you to ward off pesky pests while your guests are dining.

FAIR WEATHER FAVORS

Your wedding favors should be a token of the wedding day itself.  Therefore, if you are having an outdoor wedding, you should capture some of the essence of your natural ambiance in the favors.  If you are having a beach wedding, you could include some real sea shells or soap or candles that are shaped like shells.  You could also fill small vials with sand from your location for each guest to bring away as a memory 每 you can find decorative bottles with cork tops that can be monogrammed or personalized for a special touch.  If you are getting hitched at a wine vineyard, you could give each guest a miniature bottle of one of the vineyard＊s signature wines, with a personalized label with your names and the date.  If it is supposed to be hot, do not include candies in your favors 每 they could melt into a sticky mess.      

OUTDOOR EATS

Be sure that your caterer is experienced with preparing foods not only for weddings, but for outdoor weddings.  The menu has to accommodate the climate 每 some salad dressings and sauces need to be kept cold, and so they won＊t be ideal for the outdoors.  There should also be plenty of ice on hand, and plenty of non-alcoholic beverages, especially if it is hot out.

THE D?COR 

One of the best things about an outdoor wedding is that your location has built-in beauty.  However, accentuate the natural surroundings with some appropriate decorations, such as vines or flowers on the chairs, and fresh-cut floral centerpieces.  If you are having a country wedding, you might look into incorporating wild flowers into your bouquet and table centerpieces.  You also might string some lights around the reception area so that when the sun goes down, the party can keep roaring.
