Flowers and plants often have symbolism associated with them, and wedding are full of traditions, superstitions, and symbols.  Orchids are representative of perfection, so it is no wonder that they are a popular choice for wedding flowers and bouquets.  Also, the spots on the orchid are thought to resemble the blood of Christ, so if you are Christian, then orchids also tie faith into your floral arrangements.  While some people choose flowers based primarily on colors, understanding the symbolism of your flowers can be a helpful aid in deciding what you want.  It can also make your bridal flowers feel more special because you know what they mean 每 even your flowers are affirming the love between you and your fianc谷.  There are thousands of different variations of orchids, and the different types also have some different representations.  For example, pink orchids are a symbol of deep and pure affection, which would be another great symbol to represent your marriage.  You can find orchids in color variations of white, yellow, orange, green, purple, pink, and red.  If you are going to be making your own bouquet, orchids are a beautiful choice.  However, you can use a mixture of different flowers in conjunction with orchids as well.  You can also use silk orchids and other silk artificial flowers and vines if you want to make your bouquet in advance.  It is often a good idea to use fake flowers because there are often several last minute details that will pop up the day before your wedding, and if you are using fresh flowers, you will also have to make your bouquet that day.  The last thing you would want is to have to rush through your bouquet 每 it will be in so many of the pictures, and it is going to be the splash of color that stands out against your white dress as you descend down the alter.  In fact, using artificial flowers actually gives you more creative license because you don＊t have to be as nimble and gentle with artificial flowers as you do with real ones.  The only thing you will miss with silk flowers is the floral scent that you get with real ones.  You should rally the troops 每 your bridesmaids 每 so that they can help you to make your bouquet, their bouquets, boutonnieres for the men, and a bouquet for you to toss to the single ladies during your reception.  Here are a couple of ideas for creating an orchid wedding bouquet:

LACE AND WHIMSY

Purchase silk orchid petals from your local craft store.  If they do not have silk orchid petals, then just buy silk orchids and cut the petals off neatly.  Choose a color or colors that match the color scheme in your wedding party dresses and accessories.  String together the petals loosely with a needle and clear thread.  Make eight to ten strings of threaded petals, approximately ten inches long.  These strings are going to hang off of the base of your bouquet, so cut them to the length that you would want them to hang to on your dress when you are holding the bouquet in front of you.  Using clear thread will create an illusion that the petals are floating.  Next, using either real or silk orchids in the color and variety of your liking, gather the stems so that the heads of the flowers are bundled together.  Tightly tie the stems together with thin rope or wire, and then cut the stems at the base so that the bottom of the bouquet is flat.  Tie the petal strings to the stems so that they dangle from them.  Next, wrap the flowers in lace so that there are three inches of lace material above the tallest flower top.  Sew the lace material shut, or use glue to seal it.  Fold the top of the lace down so that the flower tops are exposed.  

ORCHID AND ROSE BOUQUET

Orchids and roses look absolutely lovely and striking together.  Plus, they are both very popular flowers for a wedding bouquet.  Purchase a tussy mussy.  A tussy mussy is a bouquet holder 每 in is a conical container that your flower stems fit into, and it will actually make carrying your bouquet much easier.  You can find them in a variety of styles, but typically, they are either silver or gold, depending on your rings.  There are some tussy mussies that come with a stand that you can place it in so that your flowers are displayed on the table at the reception.  Arrange fresh or artificial roses and orchids together so that they form a nearly round ball of flowers.  Join the stems together tightly with rubber bands.  Cut the stems below the rubber bands so that the bottom of the bouquet is flat.  Wrap the stems in satin ribbon so that they are completely covered and the rubber bands are not visible.  To secure the ribbon onto the stems, use straight pins with pearl accents on the ends, sticking them straight into the bundle of stems.  Make sure that the pins are not long enough to come out the other end (ouch!).  Secure the bouquet into the tussy mussy, and you are ready to go!
