Forget the expensive potions formulated to make your lips forever full¡ªthey¡¯re temporary. They are not magic plastic surgery in a tube.  There¡¯s no such thing.  What¡¯s really a small-lipped woman¡¯s best friend?  Nope¡ªnot liner!  Gloss.  More specifically, shimmery gloss.  The more light a lip color reflects, the plumper your lips appear.  So stay away from the dark mattes, girls!  Lighter colors are best for adding the illusion of surface area but those don¡¯t go with all makeup looks and it¡¯d be pretty boring to limit yourself so much to just a few shades.

If lipgloss were the maid of honor at your wedding, nude liner would be your next-in-line bridesmaid.  This is one of those tips that has been around forever but often been misused.  Match the color of your LIPS¡ªnot your lipstick.  If your lipstick wears off and leaves you with a big ring of burgundy liner, the ruse is over.  Everybody knows your lips aren¡¯t really that voluptuous and if you work in a place like I do, you will be forever teased about trying to pass yourself off as Angelina Jolie¡¯s sister.  So stick with your own liptone and fill in your lips with the liner, too, then top with gloss.

Two glosses can combine to make a set of fabulous lips.  Choose a medium color and smooth it on both top and bottom lips.  Then, just in the middle of the bottom lip, put a lighter, shimmery gloss.  I like to use a medium pink base with a pale golden nude pink on the bottom for emphasis.  I use either a shimmer or pearl finish for the golden nude pink.

Some women don¡¯t like colored, thick glosses.  Cr¨¨me lipsticks can also work if you stay with light shades.  Whatever you do, don¡¯t pick up a matte burgundy tube.  Put your hands in the air and step away from the long-lasting matte display.  You know how black makes you look slimmer?  Same concept for your lips in dark shades, especially when light doesn¡¯t bounce back off, as is the case with mattes.

One last tip, and a low, low maintenance one at that.  Clear gloss.  Bonne Bell makes a good one that smells fruity.  It¡¯s an inexpensive roll-on gloss that makes your lips look super alluring to that guy you¡¯ve got your eye on.  Put this on bare lips and never have to worry about how your lipstick looks.  Put it over any other color for a bee-stung, colorful pout.

And if you don¡¯t want to use makeup to enhance your lip size, you can always spend an hour or so kissing, snogging, or whatever you want to call it.  Added bonus there:  your lips get rosy too.  

Glosses to try:  Revlon LipGlides (thick gloss that stays put better than most and fills in small lines, making your lips seem healthier, younger, and plumper); MAC LipGlass (thick, somewhat sticky gloss that will have guys eyeing your lips, wondering how to gain the privilege of kissing them); Bonne Bell Roll-On Shiner (fruity scented clear gloss); Rimmel (inexpensive gloss similar to MAC¡¯s with a little less staying power).
