As families grow, it is not unusual for family members to begin to span across different cities, states or even countries. Some family members take off for college or to start new lives in other cities, while other family members continue to live in the same city where they were born and raised. For most family units, it is extremely important to keep in touch with relatives, no matter how many miles come between them. Because of this, many families begin to hold family reunions where all family members that are able to, meet in some middle destination for a day or a weekend to reconnect and see those family members they may have lost touch with. If you are planning on a family reunion in the near future, here are some ideas for family reunion sites to help inspire you.
Before deciding on a general location for your reunion, make out your guest list. Once all the guests have been determined, you may want to pull out an atlas or small map of the state or country (if some family members do, indeed, live in other states) and pin markers on the map for each cluster of family members. If you determine that most relatives live in the same city with only a few relatives living a few hours away, you may want to decide on a location in the city where most of the relatives reside. However, if relatives are scattered throughout the state or country, you may have to decide on a location that is central to everybody.
Once the general location is established, one of the first things you will want to take into consideration is the potential cost for each family to attend a reunion. If money is not a concern, then having a reunion on a cruise ship or at Disney World may not be out of the question. You could also pick a dynamic city like New York City or Las Vegas to have the entire family meet. Half the time could be spent sight-seeing while the other half could be used to meet up at pre-specified times for dinner or brunch so relatives can get reacquainted. However, if most of your relatives have concerns about the amount of money they are willing to spend, then you may want to instead have the reunion at a site that is inexpensive, like a campground site, state park or at a relative¡¯s home. Another site that would not require much more than the transportation expense includes beach destinations. Here, families could chip in and rent out one or several beach houses and spend their days having crawfish boils and nighttime bonfires.
Another matter to keep in mind is whether anybody in your family will need any type of special accommodations. For example, you may have some relatives that are elderly or require a wheelchair, so you will want to make sure that the accommodations provided will be comfortable and accessible for everyone. Most families will also have several couples with children of all ages so be sure to book a location where children can safely play with minimal adult supervision. |
