When you’re ready to start your own business, there are certainly many opportunities from which to choose. Some of the starter businesses cost thousands of dollars to begin, but other businesses can be started with minimum funding. Painting fingernails is a lucrative business these days and you can get started for a couple hundred dollars or so by assembling the must-haves first, then adding extra products later. You’ll need an airbrush gun, air hose and a few other items.

Cans of propellant will be necessities. You should keep three to four cans handy at all times if you do many nails. You can purchase one or two cans just to get started with practicing the techniques. 

A small, portable, sturdy table will be a major benefit while doing nails. The table should fold up or should at least be easily scooted. The table should have compartments for setting the paints and other accessories. The table can be stationary if you won't be traveling to client's homes. You should also have plenty of disposable towels to lay upon the table when doing nails. 

Paint, or polish is another necessity and you should have a wide variety of these. If you’re just learning, you might want to get a color or two with which to practice, but when you decide to begin doing customers’ nails, it’s time to add a lot of extra shades to the mix. Basic colors should be readily available, along with more modern choices like metallics and glitters. 

Stencils will make your job a little easier and you should offer a wide variety from which customers can choose. More and more stencils can be added to your collection later, but you should certainly have basic designs like animals or animal prints, holiday designs and basic shapes geometric shapes. 

You’ll need a cleaning pot where you can rinse the tools that you use, mixing bottle or mixing pots for blending paint colors, gun holder for resting the airgun, and a handrest or finger rest for the client to lay the hand or finger upon, making it easier to work. And if you’re just beginning, you might want to purchase a practice finger kit which has an assortment of nails that snap on for practice. Wiping away the mistakes is easy and gives you plenty of opportunity to become accustomed to painting nails on others. 

Additional supplies that you might need are airbrush top coats, airbrush base coats, airbrush cleaners, air hoses, stencil holder for doing your own nails, and maybe color wheels for showing customers how different colors will look together. Start out with the minimum amount of supplies, then as your customers pay for your work, add to your supplies, a little at a time. In no time you’ll be running your own nail painting business with success.
