The best way to end a long, strenuous day is to relax and unwind in your own special hideaway called the bedroom.  Beyond your bedroom door, you have the power to lock out the frustrations and distractions that can sometimes ruin a love life.  You can create the right atmosphere that makes all of your hardships and irritations disappear just for the evening.  

There are many methods to create the right atmosphere in the bedroom and one of them is "mood" lighting.  Sometimes the light you use in your bedroom can determine just what kind of evening you'll experience.  Creating the right lighting can range as simple as changing the color of your light bulb to the complexities of installing a fireplace in your secret hideaway.

With a little creativity you can transition you current lamps into a light source that gives off a soft, dusky and sexy glow.  You can spice up your lamp by placing a thin but dark, exotic fabric over the top of the lampshade.  Just be careful not to leave the fabric on the lamp unattended or you'll be creating the kind of flames you didn't intend.  Perhaps instead of placing a fabric over the shade, purchase a darker shade.  Any dark colors such as burgundy, red or purple can drastically effect the light given off.

You may also consider the idea of placing a red light bulb in your lamp instead of changing the shade or placing a fabric over the shade itself.  The red bulb gives off a soft glow that can also possibly give your body a soft glow instead of the brightness of a regular light bulb.

Another sensuous way of creating just the right light is placing candles sporadically in your bedroom.  There are several options to consider when you choose candles as another romantic light source.  There is the standard pillar candle, taper candle and tealight candle.  You also have the choice of having a votive candle beside your bed or a votive sconce hanging on the wall on either side of your bed.  The possibilities are endless when it comes to candlelight.

A more drastic approach to creating a romantic atmosphere would be to install light fixtures themselves.  This may be something you can do on your own or you may even have to hire someone out.  In either case, here are some ideas as to what kind of lighting you can have installed for that perfect glow.

Always remember that overhead lighting is sometimes unflattering so consider having indirect lighting installed.  One possibility would be recessed lighting.  Since the light source is hidden it is less of a distraction from the rest of the room.  You can also install an elegant chandelier to give the room a more regal feeling.  If you choose not to install a different light fixture, you can even renovate your current light by simply installing a dimmer switch.

Another romantic idea for the bedroom is to have a fireplace installed.  This all depends on the position of your bedroom in the house if you decide to go with a wood burning fireplace.  This also depends on your local building regulations but if they don't allot a regular fireplace, there are also options of having an electric or gas fireplace put into your bedroom without having to do drastic construction to your bedroom at the same time.  Having a fireplace installed can create the most romantic situations possible.

The bedroom can be created into a romantic getaway for two with just a few simple renovations.  Lighting can effect the mood and the outcome of your time spent in your bedroom.
