Whether you are a carpenter, a mechanic, a plumber, or just a "do - it - yourselfer" around your home, air tools can help make your job easier and less time - consuming. There are a wide variety of air tools on the market today. And, there's probably one to fit your every need.     

In order to use an air tool, you will first need to purchase an air compressor. These vary in tank size and the levels of horse power. An air compressor, of course, creates air pressure that is usually held in a tank. When the tank is full, the compressor shuts off. When a certain amount of air is used out of the tank, the compressor then starts back up to refill the tank. 

There are also compact air compressors available on the market. These compressors don't have a tank attached to them. Instead, they run on a continual basis in order to supply power to an air tool.  Compact air compressors are used to power smaller air tools. The compressed air is what powers the movement of an air tool. The air compressor comes with a rubber air hose that you attach to the tool you want to use. An air compressor can be also be used to add air in your car's tires. 

One of the most - commonly used air tools is probably the nail gun. It can take the place of using a traditional hammer to manually pound in nails when you're working on a construction job. A nail gun can quickly thrust a line of nails into wood before a person can drive in one nail with a traditional hammer. This tool can be used on either hard wood or soft wood, and it can handle a variety of nail lengths. You can also purchase a nail gun that specifically thrusts brad nails into wood or plastic molding.   

When you take your car in to have new tires put on, or to have the tires rotated, you probably see the next air tool at work. It allows you to get in and out of the tire store in record time. This tool is the air impact wrench, and it loosens and tightens lug bolts, et cetera, quickly. This tool is handheld and it sort of resembles a hair dryer in appearance. The impact wrench accepts different sizes of every deep, hardened - steel socket that you may need for any job. And, you can also use metric sockets with it too. Some models of air impact ratchets have built - in torque settings, as well as forward and reverse slides.
