Track lighting is being used in more and more homes the U.S each year.  This is because more and more people are realizing how versatile and useful it can be. It can easily add just a touch of light to a dark corner or highlight particular areas of a home.

If you have a living or family room with a fireplace, consider how nice it would look to have track lighting installed on the ceiling just in front of your fireplace, especially if you have a favorite work of art on your mantel or hung on your wall.  The ability to aim one light of the track to any direction that you choose is a definite positive attribute of track lighting.  You can aim one light at a porcelain statue on the mantel and another at the oil painting of your kids on the wall above the fireplace. One caveat about track lighting is that the lights do get quite hot.  They have also been known to fade paintings from time to time.  One way to avoid this is to use lower wattage flood lights instead of spot lights.  Spot lights aim their light to one small spot, while the light from flood lights spans a greater area.

The kitchen is a fine spot to install track lighting. Besides the fact that there never seems to be enough light in the kitchen, you can use them to highlight the different high points.  For example, who says that a refrigerator has to be considered ugly?  By shining track lights onto your major kitchen appliance, you will have a very different appreciation for them.  All of a sudden, they will go from being boring, old kitchen appliances to favorite kitchen accent pieces.  Think about the money that you have spent on each appliance.  That alone should inspire you to consider them to be works of art. Utilizing flood lights instead of spots will help to light more of your appliance to make your kitchen seem bigger.

Children¡¯s bedrooms are another great place for track lighting in our home.  Install the track lighting to be aimed toward their trophies and awards, favorite posters and just about any other prized possession that they may have. Another idea is to set up the track lighting high on the wall near their desk.  The lights will be able to shine down for easy reading without the annoyance of shadows. Be careful again to use flood lights for these track, as it definitely would not be a good idea to aim a hot spot light at a paper poster on the wall.

A final spot in your home to be considered for track lighting is your front entry way. Imagine spot lights beaming down from the ceiling, aimed at the coat rack, palm tree and side bench.  This would be breathtaking at night, as well.
