What Are the Many Sizes Available?
Mattresses range in size from a King, which measures about seventy six inches wide by eighty inches long; a Queen, which is about five feet wide and is eighty inches long; a Full, which is about fifty four inches wide and is seventy five inches long; and the smallest adult sized mattress, which is a Twin. It measures about thirty nine inches wide and is the same length as a full sized mattress. There is also a Long Twin that is five inches longer than a regular Twin.
When you are buying a mattress, you'll need to choose one that will fit your existing bed. However, if you're also buying a new bed frame, then you can choose whatever size fits your body. For example, if you're single, you might choose a Twin size mattress. Need more length to accommodate your height? Then try a Long Twin. And, if you're married, you'll need to check out a Full size or larger.
Mattresses also come in different depths. The depth usually ranges from eight to seventeen inches. Keep in mind that if you buy a mattress that is thinner or thicker than your existing one, that your sheets might not fit the new piece.
What's the Most Comfortable Mattress?
Buying a new mattress means that you can't be shy. You're going to need to lie down on each and every one that you are interested in. Afterall, your comfort is one of the most important factors. And only you can decide which mattress feels the best!
You'll also need to choose a mattress that provides your body with support from head to toe. Too soft of a mattress, or, too hard, can cause you to wake up with body aches. Basically, your choices of firmness will be soft, medium firm, firm and extra firm.
What About the Warranty?
Since a bed mattress only lasts for about ten years on the average, you don't need a warranty for any longer than that period of time. A standard ten year warranty will cover the piece until you're ready to buy a new one.
What About Delivery Options?
Most mattress stores will offer to deliver your new mattress to your home for a fee. Some stores will even offer to take the existing piece with them and set your new bed up. If you have a pick up, a place to dispose your old mattress at, and the manpower, then you can save yourself anywhere from forty dollars on up if you do it yourself.
How Much is a New Mattress Going to Cost?
The cost of a mattress can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. The cost, of course, will basically depend on the brand you choose and the size.
You can place your new mattress on your existing box springs, but it's not advisable. Why? Because your mattress and your box springs work together to provide you comfort and fit. Therefore, you'll need to purchase a new box spring too which will add to the cost.
