Purchasing a washing machine on a budget does not mean that you have to sacrifice quality and dependability just to save a few bucks. It¡¯s best to know the facts before you purchase your washing machine so that you will find a top quality unit that will last for years to come on your budget.
You must first find out what your needs are so that you can discover the machine that will satisfy you washing needs.
One of the most important factors to understand is rebadging. Sometimes manufacturers will have contracts to produce machines for other companies. Take a good look at the machines your buying, sometimes you can find the same quality unit rebadged with a lesser known brand name for a much cheaper price.
The two types of common washing machines on the market today are the front loading and top loading washing machines. They both have distinct advantages and disadvantages, which I will go into greater detail below.
Front loading washing machines are the new trend in the industry. Instead of the washing machine opening on top, they open from the front like a commercial washier commonly seen a Laundromat.
Top loading washing machines make up the majority of the washing machines that are sold in North America. They open from the top.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to the two different kinds of washing machines. These are listed below.
Front loading washing machines
Pros
1. More gentle on your clothes.
2. Expends less water.
3. Less power to operate.
4. Can be stacked to save space
Cons
1. Costs more than 30 to 40 percent more than a top loading washing machine for the initial purchase.
2. Front loading machines uses less power to operate, which makes for a cheaper power bill, but it takes many years to balance the savings for the extra cost of the initial purchase.
3. Requires special detergent which costs more than regular detergent, and can be hard to find in some areas.
4. The seal on the door requires replacing every few years.
Top loading washing machines
Pros
1. Cost roughly 30 to 40 percent less than front loading washing machines.
2. Available in many different colors and models.
3. Uses regular laundry detergent
4. Replacement parts are cheaper.
5. Convenient access to the wash tub.
Cons
1. Not as energy efficient, and costs more to operate.
2. Cannot be stacked to save valuable room.
3. Does not wash clothes as good.
One important consideration is noise level. If you washer is located around the living areas of your house it might be best to consider a machine with a sensible noise level volume. Faster machines generate more noise than machines with a slower tumble speed. Washing machines around 60-75 db noise level are reasonably quiet.
You must also factor in the size of the washing machine you will need, factoring in how much laundry you wash each week. Higher capacity washers will cut down on your time washing but cost more than lower capacity washers.
Cheaper washers generally require a longer wash time. This might seem to be of little concern at first thought, but would you really want to wait up to two and a half hours for your clothes to wash? While this would probably be little concern for a single person or a couple, in a house with 3 or more people this could turn out to be very inconvenient.
Some cheaper washing machine tubs are made of steel, but are porcelain coated. The porcelain tubs have a tendency to chip and break apart over time. Higher end models are equipped with plastic, or stainless steel tubs, both of which will last the life of the washer.
Remember that a washier is a long term investment. Quality washing machines can last over ten plus years. It is an important decision to weight in all factors, to find your perfect machine.
