Crocheted covers for baby bottles are not only cute additions to nursery d¨¦cor, they can help keep a babies bottle cool on a hot day, warm on a cold outing, and can also provide extra ¡®grasping¡¯ area for an infant learning to hold their own bottle. 

A basic pattern follows. Designed to fit a typical sized plastic bottle, you can increase the round after round four, for bottles that are a bit wider and hold a plastic sleeve insert, by working one sc in each of the next three stitches, followed by two sc in the next stitch. Repeat around for a count of 40 sc around, before working your rounds that provide the length covering the bottle. 

Decorated in various ways, from simple quilt-like decorations stitched flat onto them, or in a more whimsical way, such as with a three-dimensional appendage that appears to be an animal peeking over the bottom of the bottle, will give each bag individual style.

Materials for Basic Bag Pattern

G crochet hook

4-ply yarn (1/4 skein will easily make a basic bag) in assorted colors

Ch 2, 

Rnd 1: 8 sc in second ch from hook (8 sc) do not join, do not turn throughout

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (16 sc) 

Rnd 3: (one sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around (24 sc)

Rnd 4: (one sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around (32 sc) 

Rnd 5: 1 sc in each sc around (32)

Rnds6 and up: Repeat round 5 until sleeve created covers bottle up to the rim. 

Last round: (Ch 3, skip next sc, sl st in next sc) around, tie off. Chain 50, weave through ch 3 spaces and tie into a secure bow when you place the sleeve onto the bottle.

Bunny Ears

Ch 5, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch (2 dc) ch 3, turn

Row 2: 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc (3 dc) ch 3, turn

Row 3: 2 dc in first dc, 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in last dc (5 dc) ch 3, turn

Row 4: 1 dc in each dc across (5 dc) ch 3, turn

Row 5: dc next two dc tog, 1 dc in next dc, dc last two dc tog (3 dc) ch 3, turn

Row 6: dc three dc tog (1 dc) tie off

Repeat ears four times for two ears. Sew two together so they stay upright on bottom of bottle when sewn in place. Sew each ear to round five of the bottle bag, about six stitches apart. With yarn and yarn needle, stitch eyes and bunny nose, complete with whiskers and mouth directly to the top side of bag with yarn in contrasting colors to the bag. 

Mouse Ears

Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook (6 sc) ch 1, turn

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc (12 sc) ch 1, turn

Row 3: 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, hdc in next sc, ch 2, hdc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc (5 sc, 1 hdc, ch2, 1 hdc, 5 sc) tie off

Repeat ears four times for two ears. Sew two together for each ear, and tie a two inch tuft of yearn in each ch 2 space on top of the ears to give the mouse a bit of character. Sew facial features directly onto bag in the same manner as the rabbit.
