People all over the world now recycle just about everything, but one thing we rarely think of recycling is a used light bulb. Once they¡¯re burnt, they¡¯re usually tossed, but if you¡¯re even slightly artistically inclined, you can make some beautiful and unique Christmas ornaments from used light bulbs. The size of the lightbulb doesn¡¯t really matter. You¡¯ll also need paints and brushes, small pieces of felt or fleece, pom-poms, cord to make hangers, and a few others odds and ends. 

Paint a circle of beige paint onto the front of a lightbulb. Paint the remainder of the lightbulb white. Place the lightbulb where the small side is up, and paint eyes and mouth on the beige circle. Paint a red nose, then paint on a white moustache over the mouth. Now wrap the small end of the lightbulb in red felt, shaping it like a Santa hat - something like a nightcap. Bring the felt down to where the bulb begins to get larger and glue into place. Fold the hat, point side down, off to one side. Glue a white pom-pom to the end of the hat and more white pom-poms around the edge of the hat, where it meets the lightbulb. Thread the cord through a needle and go under the fold of the hat, on top, and push the needle through the fold, out the top of the hat. Take the needle back down, but only until the loop of the thread is the right size for a hanger, then take a small stitch under the hat and tie off. 

For a reindeer ornament, turn the lightbulb small side down, and paint the entire bulb brown. At the very end of the bulb, where the metal is, paint this section black. Paint on eyes and glue sticks on for antlers. Or, cut two antler shapes from fake brown fur, turned right sides together. Sew one set of the antlers together, leaving a space to turn and stuff. After turning the fabric right side out, stuff the antler, but only slightly. Insert two 12" tinsel sticks which have been entwined, then folded in half. After sewing and stuffing both antler pieces, glue a thread hanger onto the top of the bulb. Sew or glue the antlers  together on top of the lightbulb, making sure they meet and cover the spot where the hanger is glued.  

Make a snowman by painting the entire bulb white, then go over it again with white glitter or fake snow to add texture. Paint the eyes, no nose, then paint a red mouth in the shape of an ¡°O¡±. Make a little sock cap from fleece to put on the head. You can make it by cutting two bell shapes, right sides together, from the cloth. Sew from the corner of the longest side, around the bell shape, and back down to the opposite corner, leaving the bottom of the bell shape open. Fold the opening up about a third of the way to the top, to make a rim for the hat. Before gluing the hat on the head, sew in the hanger by taking the needle and thread through the underneath center of the hat, to the top, leave a loop and stitch the thread back under the hat.
