Ferrets are fuzzy little pets that are related to the otter and weasel families. These friendly and playful animals, although rodent-like, are actually as loving and energetic as small puppies or kittens. Like any other pet, ferrets are valued companions often traveling with their owners nestled on their shoulder. If you have a friend or relative that has a ferret for a pet, here are some possible gift ideas for their furry loved one for the holiday season. 

* You know those cold winter nights when the floors feel ice cold and the air seems a bit nippy? Well, think of how cold it is for a tiny ferret. Invest in a cozy little ferret bed (yes, they make these) or a soft and warm blanket for the ferret to nestle itself in on these brisk nights, especially if you live in an area with a cold climate.

* Ferrets are notorious for their slightly musky scent, so get your friend¡¯s fuzzy pal some bathing accessories like an absorbent towel made specifically for a ferret¡¯s bath time or a few packs of some moist towelettes (similar to baby wipes, but made for use with ferrets) that the owner can use to keep their ferret fresh-smelling.

* Most ferrets are allowed to roam the house or apartment when their owner is present, but when their owner is running errands or at work, these ferrets are confined to large cages where they can rest and play. Ferrets love sleeping in a comfortable curled-up position, so a great gift would be an inexpensive ferret hammock. These soft hammocks usually hang securely from the cage walls or ceiling.

* Safety is always a concern when it comes to our pets. Ferrets are extremely curious creatures, so protect them from toxic substances or other harmful articles by investing in some locks for the cabinets. These will prevent nosy ferrets from trying to get into places they don¡¯t belong. 

* Just like no child can have too many toys, the same holds true for pet ferrets. Ferrets are naturally energetic animals, so toys are great gifts for them. You could invest in a small series of plastic tubes (designed for use by ferrets) that can be set up in their cage where they can crawl through and play in. Since ferrets also love to chew on things, you could get them some safe chew toys, although you will want to consult somebody at your local pet store to determine which toys would be safest for ferrets.
