People may laugh when we call them our ¡°babies¡± and they may scoff when we bring them up repeatedly in conversation, but for cat-lovers, cats are not just mere pets. Cats, themselves, would laugh (or meow) at the suggestion. Pet cats are simply furry family members that lie with us at night, curl up with us when we¡¯re reading a good book and comfort us by hanging around when we¡¯re feeling sad or lonely. When Christmas time rolls around, if you are a cat-owner or if you have friends who have cats for ¡°babies,¡± do not forget to remember these loyal fur balls with a gift. Here are some fun cat gift ideas to help inspire you.
* Ever seen a cat strung out on the kitty drug known as catnip? One sniff of some potent catnip can turn an old and chubby cat into a lean, mean kitten again as he scurries across the room in a mad frenzy or rolls around as if possessed. Cats love anything that has catnip in it. A great gift would be a fresh catnip plant, some dried catnip in a jar or bag or any toy that is filled with catnip. For an extra special touch, you can make the catnip toy yourself very easily. You will need some catnip of course and a sock. Cut the bottom part of the sock off (from the heel part down to the toe) and fill with catnip. You can either tie the catnip up tightly with some yarn or thread or sew up the sock. Catnip toys will provide hours of entertainment for a cat and his owner.
* If your cat or friend¡¯s cat is completely indoors and, especially if the cat is a little overweight and needs some exercise, get him a cat walking harness and leash. This harness attaches safely around the cat¡¯s torso. With a leash attached to the harness, the cat can easily be walked around outside for some fresh air and a little exercise.
* Nowadays, pet owners can be seen strolling into stores and shops with their animals in tow. Get your cat her own trendy cat carrier that you can use to take her out and about to the park and to the pet store. Of course, this does not guarantee that she will like being toted around all day, but it will be nice to get her out of the house. If possible, get her name engraved or embroidered on the carrier.
* At a crafts store, get two small plain cat bowls (one for water and one for food). Using food-safe and non-toxic paint, paint your cat¡¯s (or your friend¡¯s cat¡¯s) name on the bowl and some other cat-related images like collars and fish.
* Get your cat a new collar. Be sure to invest in a break-away collar. These collars will snap off if they get caught on a fence or sharp object, to prevent your cat from accidentally choking. Also get your cat a small tag to attach to his collar which has your address, phone number and the cat¡¯s name engraved on it, in case your cat ever gets lost. |
