Attaching chain straps to existing handbags:

Try attaching link chains (your preference on size, color, and style) to your handbag instead of straps for a city chic look. You can either remove the straps from your favorite handbag and replace them with the chain link straps, or you can design your own handbag and attach them directly to the purse. Attaching the chain to your handbag is very simple.

For handbags that are made of a softer material, sewing strap loop tabs to the top of your handbag would be the best solution for attaching the chain straps. To make the tab loops, you cut a two inch strip of fabric, fold it over and sew a seam down the open side. Flip it so the seam will not show. Then it is ready to be formed into a loop and sewn on. When attaching the chain strap hooks to the strap loop tab, make sure your strap loop has about a ? inch leeway. This will ensure that there will be enough room for your strap hook. Attaching the chain link strap to the strap hook is as easy as taking your pliers and pinching the two sides of the strap hook together to form a triangle.

A chain hanger is an easy alternative to attaching your chain straps to your handbag. They are not only cheap, but they are also very attractive. They give a nice, finished look to your handbag, and can be found in hardware stores, craft stores, etc.

At one time cigar boxes were hard to find, but since cigar smoking became popular again, finding wooden cigar boxes are easier to come by. You can either find a cigar store so you can get the cigar boxes for free, or if you can¡¯t find any for free you can usually find them at craft stores or on the internet for less than five dollars.

There are various styles of handbags that you can create just by adding hardware and different designs to the body of the handbag.  By adding postcards, rub-on letters or whatever you want, you will make the handbag unique. Try wood burning on the front or back of the handbag and varnish or paint it. Use drawer pulls, corner brass, silver, or gold to make it look polished and finished.
