Denim jeans are a delight. They feel good, they look good and they last a long time. No wonder why everyone loves them. They have even become acceptable in modern society to wear to work on casual days. Jeans are worn more than any other type of clothing.
Because jeans are so popular, they are mostly bought in stores across the country, but not a lot of people know you can make your own twill jeans without too much effort.
There are a few things to know about the stitch of the denim twill weave. The weave itself has fewer interlacings, making more yarns per inch needed. Not only this but there is also more raveling and more pliable drape and hand. This is needed to provide a wrinkle resistant weave desirable to the twill weave.
A twill weave will leave a material resistant to stains from soil and other stains. It will also make the material heavier, making it more durable in the process.
The angle of the twill is up to you or the fashion of style jeans you would like. The typical style of jeans have a 45 degree angle while some have as little as fifteen degrees and as much as seventy five degrees.
The structure is very simple to the twill weave. It is an interlacing of usually three warp yarns over and two warp yarns under. This technique will reveal a diagonal ridge and is usually from left to right or even right to left if that is what you are more comfortable with. Keep threads tight as you do want the fabric to be strong and durable.
Once you are comfortable with the weave itself it is just a matter of repeating the process to make your denim. Your denim will be heavy and rough so take your time. Once you have plenty of material to work with, the next step is choosing a pattern to make the denim jeans.
Choose your pattern for the style of the jeans and follow the directions by cutting the fabric you have made into the proper shapes. Don¡¯t throw away the scraps! Save your hard work for other projects.
Following your patterns, stitch together with a heavy thread and use a good sewing machine that can handle denim and make sure you use the proper needle a good strong study one. Don¡¯t forget to add a zipper or buttons or whatever material you¡¯d like. Some people have been adding Velcro for kids or older adults who love jeans and want to put them on themselves.
Remember to give room for your body to breath and the twill will be heavy but still made of cotton and it may shrink when washed. Be sure to remember this when making your jeans as you want to leave plenty of room just in case.
Jeans are very comfortable and very popular but sometimes can be very expensive. If you know how to weave your own twill jeans, you could save a bundle. The process is fun as well as rewarding when you have your own pair of custom made, one of a kind, pair of jeans. Once you learn the process and are comfortable with it you¡¯ll never have to pay high prices for a good pair of jeans.
