You are still full from all of the food you ate at Thanksgiving. As you are packing away the pounds of leftovers from your Thanksgiving feast, it hits you. You need to buy some Christmas cards to send out early. You rush out to the store and peruse the crowded aisles for some nice and inspiring Christmas cards only to see that the nicest ones are all out of stock and the ones that are left hold only eight to a box and cost over fifteen dollars each. You didn¡¯t account for this expense in your already tight Christmas budget, so what are you to do? Make some homemade Christmas cards, of course! Homemade Christmas cards are both unique and inexpensive and the following ideas are also easy to make.
Before actually deciding on a Christmas card style, take a look at Christmas cards that you find in stores. If you notice, most of them, especially the ones that are made to LOOK homemade, are actually quite simplistic. Jot down some ideas and get inspired by these cards. Once you take a good hard look at them, you will wonder why you ever wasted your money with store-bought Christmas cards in the first place.
* Felt is one of the least expensive craft products to purchase, which is why so many craft projects call for it. Go to your local crafts store and purchase several sheets of Christmas-inspired colors like green, red, white and gold. You will also want to invest in some plain white cards, which you can buy in bulk for very little money. Cut out some Christmas or winter shapes from the felt, like stockings, snowmen, mittens, or Christmas trees and use hot glue to paste them to the front of the card. With a calligraphy pen write something simple on the front of the card or inside. ¡°Happy holidays from our family to yours¡± or ¡°Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year¡± would do the trick.
* One of the trendiest crafts currently is the use of rubber stamps. They are simple to use and inexpensive, as well. At a crafts store, buy some plain white cards and invest in one or two Christmas inspired rubber stamps and a stamp pad. On a plain scrap piece of paper, design how you will stamp your card. Once this is done, stamp each of your cards with the Christmas stamps on one side. On the flip side, using a nice calligraphy pen, write your Christmas wishes to your friends and family.
* If you still have some Autumn leaves laying around, pick out some nice large ones that still have their stems attached. Place your plain white card stock (or plain white cards) on some newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Using a temporary adhesive, paste your leaf on the front of a card. With silver or gold spray paint, lightly spray over the leaf. You do not have to completely cover the card stock that is exposed with spray paint. Just do a once over on the leaf and then pull the leaf off the card stock. You should be left with a nice, light and elegant outline of the leaf. Allow each card to dry before writing your Christmas greetings inside.
* Go online and pull up some scenes from some of your favorite Christmas movies like ¡°It¡¯s a Wonderful Life¡± or ¡°A Christmas Story.¡± Print out black and white images of some of these scenes on your printer and create a Christmas collage on the front of your plain white note cards. Once the collage is dry, print a favorite Christmas quote from one of these movies inside to use as your Christmas greeting. |
