Starting a home workshop can be difficult if you don¡¯t have the proper power tools.
There are basic tools that you will need for any project, big or small. All of these Power Tools can be purchased at your local home improvement center or tool store. There are two grades of power tools. One grade is strictly for homeowners; these are less expensive than commercial power tools and will withstand basic jobs around the home. The other grade is for commercial use. Commercial use power tools will withstand a lot of wear and tear and are generally more expensive. Before purchasing your power tools, decide how much use your power tools will get and how many projects you plan on using them for. If you plan on only using them a few times, then the less expensive power tools are for you. Almost all power tool manufacturers make the two different grades of power tools.
1) Power Drill- A power drill is a very handy tool. Power drills are needed when screws or nails just can¡¯t be nailed into a wall or board because of thickness and the possibly of the wood splitting. This power tool is going to be one of the most used tools in your workshop.
2) Circular Saw- This power tool is a necessity for cutting wood. Circular saws are so much faster than using the traditional hand saw and if used properly are much safer.
3) Sander- There is different types of sanders. Palm Sanders are great for handling that small sanding job. They are round and use small round sheets of sand paper. They fit in the palm of your hand and are lightweight. Palm sanders can be used in a circular motion. Orbital Sanders are much bigger and rectangular and require rectangular sheets of sand paper attached to the bottom. With this sander, you apply pressure to the wood and use a forward and back motion to sand wood.
4) Jig saw- Jig saws are required for that job where you will need a specific cut or design. Most projects around the home will need a jig saw since not all projects are made from a straight cut. Jig saws are great for trim work and for any one that makes crafts out of wood.
5) Rotary Tool- Great for sanding, grinding and engraving. Rotary tools are a necessity for sanding in small spaces, grinding down broken nails or screws that have broken off and can¡¯t be removed or for making a project where you would want to personalize it.
6) Router- Routers are one of the best power tools to own. This tool is so versatile when it comes to all the different bits you can buy. Each bit has a unique design and will make any projects stand out. The router base sits on top of the wood or material you want to cut and you guide the router across the material you are cutting while the bit cuts the design.
7) Wet and Dry shop vacuum- Most people wouldn¡¯t think of a shop vacuum as a power tool necessity. Shop vacuums come in all different gallon sizes. You will find it will not only come in handy for cleaning up all the saw dust from your projects, but also for cleaning every section of your new workshop.
