Thanksgiving is just around the corner and your family has decided that your house would be the perfect setting for the next Thanksgiving feast. With turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie on your mind, you may not have enough energy to think of the one thing that many Thanksgiving feast holders overlook: the centerpiece. While it may seem like only a minor part of the entire Thanksgiving Day, it may prove to be a saving grace for some whose culinary skills are not up to par. Whether or not the feast itself turns out to be a success, guests will, at least, always remember the centerpiece!

It is always easy to go the flower route and just call your local florist and have them design an autumn-inspired bouquet for you to place on your table. However, the theme of Thanksgiving is, in and of itself, humble, so why not design and create the centerpiece yourself. Just give yourself ample time to create the centerpiece so that you are not doing everything, including the cooking, at the last minute!

Of course you can go as simple or dramatic as you¡¯d like. Why not get one large pumpkin and several smaller pumpkins of varied sizes for a simple centerpiece idea? Place the largest pumpkin in the center of the table and then ones just a little bit smaller to both sides. Keep placing smaller and smaller pumpkins down the line so you eventually have one line of pumpkins that starts small, gets bigger and then smaller again as it approaches the end of the dining room table. For an even more dramatic look, cut holes on the tops of the pumpkins to place candles in and have them lit when the guest arrive. 

Have you ever gone to the fancy decorating stores and seen softball-sized balls covered with seeds or beans that they sell for a few dollars each? You can easily create these at home for a fraction of the price. Simply go to your crafts store and purchase foam balls. Use different colored seeds or beans and glue them to the foam so that only the seeds show. Make many different variations of these balls either sticking to one color for each ball or being creative with fancy designs or stripes of different colors. Place these balls in a large wooden or straw bowl in the center of the table and once the table is set, put a few of the decorated balls randomly around the table.

For a dramatic, yet simple, centerpiece that will have your guests talking for months, find some of your favorite Thanksgiving pictures from year¡¯s past. Find elegant and autumn-inspired frames and put your pictures in them. Line your frames up and down the center of the table making sure that the frames face both ways so that guests on both sides of the table can get a view of them. Sprinkle a few dried leaves around the frames and, if you choose, light some short pillar candles, as well for added effect. While your guests dine, they can be looking at the pictures that remind them of Thanksgiving feasts past. They will not only serve as a centerpiece, but as a conversation piece, as well.
