Some might think that wearing a hat while skateboarding would be a nuisance. What would be the point of wearing a hat that would fly off of your head? The truth is simple. In order to be taken seriously, you have to dress the part. It¡¯s also important to yourself to feel like you are in the proper mode to skateboard. If you went to the gym is your work clothes instead of your workout clothes, you wouldn¡¯t feel much like working out and visa versa.
The latest styles of skateboarding hats come in quite a variety to colors and styles, the most popular of which is the beanie. This is a simple hat which is often referred to as a winter hat, tunic or knit hat. Beanies are currently worn year round, even in the warmer summer months.
Beanies come in all shapes and sizes, and all of the colors of the rainbow. They come with patches, embroidery or a brand name woven right into the hat itself. Most importantly, it has to match your board. You can¡¯t be seen with a World Industries skateboard with a different brand name beanie. If you can¡¯t find a beanie to match your board, the next best bet is to have it match your skate shoes. Every brand name of skate shoes has a few beanies with different styles and colors to match.
One of the latest fads in beanies is called a visor beanie. This is a regular knit beanie with a knit visor on the bottom front. Some of the visors have cardboard inside of them to keep the visor stiff. Some visors don¡¯t have any stiff sustenance and just flop in the wind. The trend is to wear the visor a little off center and more toward the side of your head.
Baseball style caps are always popular with skaters, adorned with their favorite brand or logo on the front of the cap. The latest trend is baseball style caps are a revival of the 1970¡¯s trucker hats. This style of cap has a solid panel in the front of the cap with a logo or brand name, while the sides and back are made of mesh. Trucker hats are also adjustable with the pop clasp located on the lower back of the hat..
One big headwear trend that has been losing ground with skaters over the past five years is the visor. You will very rarely see a visor on a skater, but will still see them on other sports players such as football and tennis players. The urban street scene has adjusted the visor trend to wearing the visor upside down and backwards so that the visor is angled up and on the back of their head.
As for now, these are the basic trends for skateboarding headwear. No one knows where the future of skateboarding hats will take us, but it will definitely be interesting to find out.
You should always use caution and wear a safety helmet when riding in unfamiliar territory and for practicing tricks.
