When you enjoy skating as much as most people do, the magazines that go along with it and reflect the culture are an important part of the lifestyle.  Most magazines are produced on a smaller scale and have a cult-like appeal.  There are tons of zines on the marketplace today, but some are much more popular than others.

Thrasher is one of the all time biggest and best of the skating magazines.  Not only does it feature great full color photos of the hottest skaters and their moves, it also features information about music and other alternative sports, so it¡¯s a great magazine for young people interested in things other than skateboarding.  Some of the older issues of Thrasher are really hard to find, and can be worth a decent amount of money if put into the hands of the right collector.  Thrasher is absolutely the best selling skate magazine on the market and has been for years.  

Transworld Skateboarding Magazine is another really popular selection for skaters.  It comes out to press on a monthly basis and keeps the material fresh.  It features interviews, lists live events, trick tips, and more.   It also included travel stories from around the world and skateboard reviews so you¡¯ll know what to buy.  There are also monthly contests where readers can win a complete skateboard, and a really nice looking website with a lot of information and pictures.

Slap magazine is a little bit newer to the market, but has gained a pretty large following since its inception.  A really colorful layout, lots of cool features, contests, and a great line of merchandise have helped add to its popularity.  The magazine also includes lots of great reviews and new music information.  Slap¡¯s website is constantly updated with great information and photos.

Adrenalin magazine prides itself in not only including information about skating, but snowboarding and other extreme sports as well.  The magazine is published quarterly on a global scale, and is printed in several languages including French, German, and Italian (and of course English).  Adrenalin prides itself in its illustrators who publish creative accounts of skate and snow events, and the magazine also features a wonderfully done nice full-color photo section.  

Concrete Wave is different from Adrenalin magazine in that its motto is ¡°100% skateboarding¡±.  The magazine prides itself on focusing on the sport of skateboarding and nothing else.  The staff guarantees the magazine will never stray from this philosophy, and will strive to give its readers new ways of thinking when it comes to skateboarding.  This has made Concrete Wave one of the top skating magazines out there today.  

Automatic Magazine is another popular skating zine, and focuses on photography as a major vessel in getting its message out to readers.  Creative layouts and the promise that all of their photos are not doctored makes Automatic a popular favorite of more experienced skaters.  It gives them the opportunity to see what kind of ramps and tricks are being used and who is hot on the scene.  

These are just a few of the many skateboarding magazines out there today.  With some careful choosing, you¡¯re bound to find one or two to claim as favorites.  Most of these can be bought by the issue or by subscription, so test the waters first and pick up a stray copy or a back issue until you find the magazine that¡¯s just right for you.
