Get the house ready for Halloween the easy way this year.  Both kids and adults can have tons of fun making these amazingly simple yet seriously spooky miniature ghosts.  

Materials:

Small Styrofoam balls

A bag of  lollipops

White muslin 

Kleenex/tissue or white tissue paper

White string or clear fishing line

Scissors

Black marker (optional)

Function of materials:

The Styrofoam balls and the lollipops will shape the ghosts¡¯ bodies

The white muslin and the tissue will make the ¡°sheet,¡±  or the visible part of the ghosts¡¯ bodies

Use the white string or clear fishing line to hang the ghosts.

The black marker can be used to draw a face on the ghost if you want it to have a face

Instructions:

1)  Start with the larger of the two mini-ghosts.  Take a piece of white muslin and cut it to size.  It needs to be large enough to drape over the Styrofoam ball and still have several inches left to hang down as the ghost¡¯s skirt.  

2) When the fabric is cut, evenly drape it over a Styrofoam ball.

3) Take the string or fishing line and tie it like a noose on the outside of the fabric around the bottom of the Styrofoam ball.  The string should be cinched and knotted.  This will give the ghost¡¯s head definition and it keeps the ghost¡¯s head in place it is hung.  

4) Make the ghost ready to hang by taking the free end of the string and making a loop at the top.  Now it can be hung over nails, tacks and hooks with no problem.

5) To add extra detail to the ghost, scallop the bottom edges of the ghosts¡¯ skirts. 

When you have made all of the larger mini-ghosts, move on to making the smaller mini-ghosts.  

1) Pick up a lollipop and cover it with a tissue.

2) Just as in step 3 for the larger mini-ghosts, take string of fishing line and tie a noose tightly around the bottom of the lollipop, on the outside of the tissue.  Secure it with a good knot.  

3) Fashion a loop out of the free end of the string and it is ready to be hung.  

4) The skirts of these small mini-ghosts can also be scalloped to give the ghosts additional detail.

When all of both types of ghosts are finished, decide whether to put a face on them or not.  You can also choose to draw a face on some and leave some blank.  With the black marker give the ghosts big oval eyes and even a nose or a mouth.  Experiment with different shapes and even different colors.  

For the best results cut the string or fishing line at varying lengths for both sizes of mini-ghosts.  Cut the string before tying at varying lengths between 6 inches and 3 feet.  That way, dozens of the mini-ghosts can hang on display at staggering heights in the same room or window.  They can even be hung in doorways in the same fashion.
