Refrigerator magnets are a fun way to dress up an otherwise ordinary refrigerator. Not only are they decorative, refrigerator magnets are also a very useful tool for posting notes, pictures, and other lightweight items. You can make create very unique refrigerator magnets that resemble real ice cream treats. These one-of-a-kind refrigerator magnets are easy to make and fun for people of all ages and skill levels. They make wonderfully unique gifts too.
To make a refrigerator magnet that looks like a real ice cream shake you will need a clear disposable drinking cup, a disposable plastic straw, self-adhesive magnetic strips, and a small handful of white pillow stuffing. You will also need a large round red plastic bead, scissors, clear craft glue, a paper plate, a fine-tip black marker, and either brown or pink felt to line the clear plastic cup. Colored seed beads are optional.
Begin this project by cutting a small clear plastic cup down the center. Cut it as evenly as possible so you are left with 2 equal sides. Next you will need to trace the cut sides of the cup on the flat part of a paper plate. Cut out the paper shape, and glue it to the cut edges of the cup. Set it aside to dry completely before continuing.
When the glue has dried and the cardboard backing for the refrigerator magnet is secure, make ice cream for the cup by cutting a piece of either brown or pink felt that¡¯s the same height and width of the cup. Use a fine-tip black marker to trace the pattern of the cup. Cut out the felt piece, and use a small amount of clear drying craft glue to attach it to the inside of the cup.
Now it¡¯s time to top the ice cream shake with a dollop of whipped cream. Put a moderate amount of glue in the bottom of the cup, and place enough white pillow stuffing in the cup to heap it over the top like whipped cream on a real ice cream shake.
Add a straw to the cup to give it an even more realistic appearance. Place a disposable plastic straw inside the cup, and cut it to the appropriate length according to the depth of the cup. Put a small amount of glue on the side of the straw to hold it in place within the cup.
No whipped cream topped ice cream shake would be complete without a cherry. Complete the ice cream shake refrigerator magnet by topping it with a delicious red ripe cherry. The cherry in this shake is actually a large red bead. Put a small amount of glue on the bead, and place it on top of the whipped cream.
Optionally you can add colored sprinkles to the top of the shake. The colored sprinkles on this shake are actually colored seed beads. Put a tiny dot of glue on each bead, and place them one by one on the whipped cream pillow stuffing. Allow the entire project to dry completely, and finish it by placing a self-adhesive magnetic strip on the back.
Make a mouthwatering ice cream cone magnet using an ordinary paper plate and half of a foam ball. For this project you will need a waterproof marker in a color of your choice, a paper plate, a fine-tip brown marker, a ruler, a stapler, a tan marker, half of a foam circle approximately 3 inches in diameter, and clear craft glue.
Begin this project by cutting a large triangle from the center of a paper plate. Color the triangle with a tan marker, and draw a waffle-weave pattern using a ruler and a fine-tip brown marker. Transform the triangle into a cone by overlapping two sides. Use a stapler to join the sides and hold them in place.
Color the half foam ball with a waterproof marker in a color of your choice. This will form the scoop of ice cream on top of the cone. Allow the marker to dry completely, and glue the half foam ball to the top of the paper cone. Make sure the flat back of the half foam ball is on the same side as the stapled edges of the cone. Set the cone upside down on a glass, and allow the glue to dry.
Complete the ice cream cone refrigerator magnet by attaching a self-adhesive magnetic strip to the flat back of the half foam ball, and to the stapled back of the paper cone.
Consider giving this cute magnetic ice cream treat to someone special in a gift bag along with gift certificates to your favorite ice cream shop. Another suggestion is to place the refrigerator magnets in a gift bag along with fancy ice cream sundae dishes, long-handled spoons, and yummy sundae toppings. The recipient is sure to love this thoughtful and unique gift. |
