The origami model described below is a very simple project. A beginner should be able to fold a completed boot in 5 minutes or less. All you need is a rectangle of paper (or a rectangular cloth napkin) and a place to work.

You can fold your boot from any color of paper you choose. Just make sure that it is cut into a perfect square and is heavier than the average notebook paper. Start with plain, white copy or typing paper first and then move on to your special paper once you have mastered the model.

The only other item you need for your project is a hard, flat surface upon which to work. This is the most effective way to end up with a sharply creased model. Without sharp creases, the model will not hold its shape and will not fold properly. Consider keeping a ruler pencil to run along each crease as you work. This will help make your creases even sharper.

1. Position a rectangular piece of paper on your work surface so that its short edges are facing left and right. If you are using two-sided paper, then make sure that the desired exterior color for your boot is facing down.

2. Bring the left edge over to meet the right edge. Crease and unfold. 

3. Bring the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Crease and leave folded. 

4. Bring both layers of the model's bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Crease and leave folded. 

5. Bring the lower left edge of the model up to lie along the vertical center crease. A large portion of the folded strip will extend past the model's top edge. Crease and leave folded. 

6. Bring the lower right edge of the model up to lie along the vertical center crease. A large portion of the folded strip will extend past the model¡¯s top edge. Crease and leave folded.

7. Bring the lower left edge of the model up to meet the vertical center line. Crease and leave folded. 

8. Bring the lower right edge of the model up to meet the vertical center line. Crease and leave folded. 

9. Bring the left edge of the model over to meet the right. Crease and leave folded.

10. Bring the right edge of the model's top layer back and to the left so that the reversed layer now juts straight out from the left side of the model. Crease and leave folded. 

11. Bring the upper right point of the model over to meet the upper left point. Crease and leave folded. 

12. Bring the top edge of the model over to meet the right edge. Crease and leave folded.

13. Bring the resulting top point of the model down toward the bottom. Tuck the point into the triangular pocket located at the bottom of the model to form the boot. 

14. Open up the right edge of the model to create a flattened sole for the boot.
