If your child wants to be a witch or a wizard for Halloween, then this is the craft for you and your family!  Making costumes can be a very expensive, very long process, and buying costumes can be just as painful.  This craft makes funny looking witch and wizard hats, and although they are not top of the line, they are definitely fun to make.  In just an hour or so, you can add a new spooky hat to your costume collection.

In order to make a witch¡¯s hat, you should have two large black pieces of felt.  Places the two pieces of felt on top of each other and cut out two identical triangles.  Make the triangles large enough to fit over your head if you they were glued together like a hat.  Now apply glue to two sides of each triangle, so that there will still be a hole in the bottom so the hat can sit on your head.  Wait for the glue to dry.

Next, use paint to add spiders and spider webs to the hat.  You can embellish these details by adding glitter to the paint while it is drying.  Do not go overboard with the glitter, though, because it can be very difficult to remove glitter from felt.  You can also purchase synthetic cobwebs to add to the hat for an extra spooky look.  If the hat continuously falls off of your head when you are trying to wear it, try attaching a piece of string to tie under your chin.

In order to make a wizard¡¯s hat, collect two large pieces of purple felt.  Place the two pieces of felt on top of each other and cut out two identical triangles.  Make the triangles large enough to fit over your head if they were glued together like a hat.  Now apply glue to two sides of each triangle, so that there is still one side that is not glued together.  This is where you will set the hat on your head.  Wait for the glue to dry.

Next, use paint to add stars and streamers to the hat.  As always, you can embellish your stars and streamers by sprinkling glitter over the paint before it dries or adding glitter with glue later.  You can also purchase shiny star stickers to add to your hat.  Once again, if the hat falls off your head, attach a string to it so that it will stay taut under your chin.

For extra special hats, you can attach a brim.  To do this, cut out a large circle from felt that is the same color as your hat.  Cut a smaller circle from inside this circle, and then make a slit in the side of this donut shape.  Wrap the donut shape around the bottom of your hat and use glue to attach it.  This will make a floppy brim for your witch or wizard hat.  Do not forget to decorate this portion of your hat, as well!
